Good morning everyone. Doing a little late night news catch up reading and found this in VenturaCountyStar Online (guess it will be in today's paper). I know you all are worried about the condors: Excerpt from Ventura County Star Online Article: .......... People aren't the only ones affected by the smoke. The animals that make Los Padres National Forest home are having to cope with a smoky, singed landscape. Condors could benefit Biologists aren't sure how a California condor nest near the fire fared and if the parents of the young chick have stayed on the nest despite the soupy air, Freel said. The fire might actually be good for the condors in the long run because they prefer nesting in old, craggy trees without limbs. And for condors, which eat carrion, there might be plenty of food around. Because the fire charged so fast — as quickly as 10 mph at some points over the weekend — some smaller animals might not have been able to get out of the way, Freel said. Marti Witter, fire ecologist with the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, said rattlesnakes seem especially susceptible to getting caught in the flames. ............. Talk to you all later! |

Oh that's too funny - I don't mind starting the threads but I'm always afraid I'm going to do that - I read it, check it, read it, check it - cross my fingers and hit "post" - then I'm afraid to go back and check because what if I made a mistake! Ah, you're with friends so it's OK. Of course I don't have a clue as to how to fix it so..... when the rest are up and about, someone will know! (Actually I didn't even look at the date - I looked for "Tuesday" - see how sad I am) Here's a photo I "borrowed" earlier today - so cute - can't wait:

Good morning all. Hey Bea, don't worry, we know what you meant. No way to change it now but who cares? I'd take a guess that more than half of us are blonde and wouldn't know the difference

He looks too cute to breathe fire - but I was hoping everyone would get the significance of the dragon. Some days when we would stare at the empty nest all day long waiting for something, someone......we would start to "see" things. I think it was originally ojailala who said the nest was starting to look like a dragon. Anyway, every time I look at the next I can see the dragon. My hubby is bugging me to get ready for work so I better go since we ride to work together - hope everyone has a great day! Speaking of fire - I really hope they can start slowing this fire down. The winds have calmed down and the temps have dropped a little so things are looking better for the firefighters.

I just looked for Tuesday - and if I saw September, I was in the right ball park - date/what's that!! I'm up and awake - that's an accomplishment in itself! Maybe the dragon can be the guardian of the nest until mom/dad return and get to work renovating for the next little guest. If that's the case - I'd just worry about stray sparks! He can collect the monies from the little jay ..... gonna need all we can get to bring the nest up to code (building code that is)!

Those little babies are sooooo cute! I just melt everytime I watch the video and see them at that stage. Carol Ann, love your new avatar and its significance. And I think it was Ojailala who had that first hallucination too. LOL at Harpo for having the dragon collect rent from the jays. |

Good Morning all~ Bea: Thank you so much for the article. I am feeling somewhat better about the condors but now I am sadened by the plight of the smaller animals. OH if it has to be then I hope they will help feed the animals that survive. Poor little things. This would be better to take if the fire was a natural fire but it was set whether by accident or not it was still a fire that should not have happened. I hope everyone is in a safe place today, be sure to hug and give thanks to loved ones. Big hugs to all today. . . . |

That is so cute Harpo. I should take a picture of my macaw bathing in the kitchen sink. She washes the floor for me while she's at it. |

Carol Ann, I love your new avatar---neat little dragon, and I do remember Linda's Puff the Magic Dragon. Was looking at the Mesowest weather on the island. At 8 a.m., it was 66 degrees with 54% relative humidity---and at 9 a.m. it dropped to 64 degrees and 81% relative humidity. Nice day here, too. Bea: know you're at work, but I go straight for the Day--which is Tuesday. My brain can't handle the date this early in the a.m. -- I didn't even notice. And thanks for the Star report.Forgot to say--love that drinking bird, Harpo!! HulaBird--how is your dove? I miss a lot of posts and don't know if you ever reported more on him. |
