For people keeping a watch on the Day fire... it has now burned 84 thousand plus acres and is only 15% contained. The good news is its moved away from Oaji and the weather has cooled some to help firefighters. The condor santuary however is still in its path.

I'm not positive about rattlesnakes in general, but we used to come across prairie rattlers in Alberta on a regular basis, and in the badlands you would very frequently see them early in the mornings on the side of the road on pavement or gravel trying to warm up. In general they definitely would prefer to avoid humans if at all possible - you wanted to make sure you watched where you were going and didn't accidentally surprise or corner one. I actually did come fairly close walking over the crest of a hill to a baby rattler on one occasion, but it started rattling before I got right up to it and it was easy to avoid. |

The show right now is under Crocodile Hunter. The memorial won't be on Tivo, special event. This is a great show right now, his Dad was talking about Steve as a kid, always running around in the bush, they could never find him. And his Mom, who was killed in a car accident a couple years ago, talks about him. They showed family home videos of him as a boy, with his first snake @ age of 7. Boa constrictor |

Sandie, Eagle Duo may already have answered your questions in the private message she sent you, but just briefly for everyone, since I was also in the dark about this for a while: An Avatar is the picture below our screenname to the left of our posts. For example, mine is a picture of A-49 flying, Nancy has cute little dancing cats, Eagle Duo has an assortment of pictures that keep rotating, Bird has a Robin and CarolAnn has a dragon. BTW, Carol Ann and Bird, love your avatars! Also, if you look under the "What are your questions" section, you will see a link called "Tech Help". There is some information there that may help you to post some pictures of your own. We know when someone is a "Newbie" by the information right below the avatar. It tells us how many times someone has posted, when they became a member etc... If the number of posts is low, that means this person has not really posted much. We call them "Newbies", though they may have become members a long time ago. Hang in there Sandie and don't give up!! You'll be posting pictures here pretty soon!! |

They are big and scary so be diligent and aware. It's a lot of work hiking in the summer when it's hot, not a stroll. We have lots of rattlers here, it gets hot in the summer. Unless you get surprised by one of those big daddy snakes, you might be a little nieve. But it's always worth going out to the trails. The open space is so cool!! Indorphins are so healthy. I'm seeing the forestry trucks leaving and blue skys again. The dust is settling. Maybe I'll try a hike tomorrow.
