Hulabird so sorry about the dove. You did what you could for the poor thing and at least its last moments were in your loving hands. It is never fun to lose any animal |

Lover of Chicks! What a wonderful tribute to our beautiful baby girl! Wondering if you would allow Dr Sharpe to print that out on nice paper and sell it as one of the donation items??? (Pssst: Dr Sharpe: MARKETING ALERT) I'll take one today. And it couldn't have come at a better time than our Wednesday update. What beautiful pictures Dave took (I feel a puddle coming on). I have an arranged marriage in mind with our girl and that very handsome A-55. He has a 'tude just like she does. A match made in heaven. |

Sandie, I woke up last night at 2:10 (this a.m, actually) because Karma was screaming---and the neighbors do work! He shut up right away, but a few minutes later my Moustache parakeets started the night fright thing. They settled down fairly quickly...went out to check on them. A few minutes after I'm back in bed, the Princess of Wales started flying across his flight. ??? I turned on the bathroom light, which leads directly out to their aviary. Now I'm wondering---was there a very tiny earthquake tremor? Maybe it's only a coincidence, but I had a lot of activity going on here in the wee hours and could not get back to sleep. My three indoor cockatiels did not go into a night fright, so it's a mystery. They're usually the first to start when there's the slightest earth movement. But now I think maybe Tu is losing tail feathers due to the night fright activity. I have two nighlights in the aviary---so it's never totally dark, unless there's a power outage. |

Patti, do you have a drawing of your aviary plans? I don't know how stepping out your bathroom into an aviary could be a better life than any other. |

HB--the aviary got "stuck" where it is because I'll bet 90% plus of our property is a small hill. The former owner built a great concrete retaining wall to keep the hill from falling on top of our small home at the bottom of the hill. When we bought the house you could walk all the way around it---and it is pretty much sandwiched on the east and north by the hillside retaining wall. My hubby used the north side retaining wall as the base from which to build the north side of the aviary--added great windows above that retaining wall. He enclosed the east and west ends of the passageway. The east and west ends both have a door and window--which "close it off." The south side of the aviary is MY HOUSE! That is why the bathroom window opens up to the aviary---but no door into the aviary from the home. The bathroom window comes in handy for creating a crossbreeze from every direction--and for chatting to them/or scolding Karma for yelling. It's pretty unorthodox, but my hubby did a great job on the aviary structure. It has expensive (for us, anyway) clear plastic--but a special kind--not the flimsy stuff--panels for the roof and the space above the 6 sliding windows & doors. During very severe Santa Ana winds, I have to hose the roof to keep it cool. We also have shadecloth hanging inside, from the ceiling. We have wild critters up here--so to be safe, you sort of have to have it enclosed and critter-proofed. I can't get my darned cell phone camera to send pics, but will try to use my hubby's when he comes home tomorrow from LA--and get a few interior pix of it. The birds love it and feel safe, for the most part. Karma cannot see the hawks & crows--like he did at our last house. I'm zoned up here for this number of birds...and since my neighbor here is illegally renting to two parties, we both have a mutual respect for one another and get along fine...if you know what I mean. He waved at me today and I smiled and waved REAL BIG right back--since Big Mouth was screaming at 2:10 a.m. Now off to the grocery store for mom. |

This is a really neat article on Peter Sharpe and the Catalina Islands by "Living on Earth" from July 2001. Scroll down to the link to "Eagles" http://www.loe.org/shows/shows.htm?program...00027#feature10 It looks like at one time you could listen to it. This is the transcript of the program. |

Great transcript Jann. Thanks. I learned some new things, even tho I'm sure I've heard it all before. I never get tired of eagle information! Living On Earth is a good show. I've listened to it for years. It is easy to do so these days with live streaming internet. |

Hello everybody, just checking in to see what's new? Had a busy morning, and tomorrow, as well as Roy doing the Farmer's Market, I have been called into sub, so it will be an extra busy day for us both. sandie, who knows what goes through people's minds these days, that they have to vandalize other people's property. That's too bad about your trailer and your neighbour's phone.......although I'm sure she is more upset about the damage to her car! |

Neat. The little speaker looked grayed out and I didn't even realize you could still click on it. Here are a couple more articles showing how busy the good Dr. Sharpe is. After this I'll let you GoodSearch your own. http://www.hsus.org/about_us/hsus_hollywoo...auty/index.html http://www.kcet.org/lifeandtimes/archives/...06/20050607.php This is from a daily brief in "Critical Section" April 2004 ![]() "The story began as it ended Friday, off the east side of Catalina Island with wildlife ecologist Peter Sharpe dangling from a Kevlar rope 200 feet above the Pacific Ocean. His mission: to revive the population of bald eagles on the island. Two months ago, Sharpe snatched 11 eggs from the nests of five breeding pairs of eagles. On Friday, he attempted to return two young eaglets to the cliff-side nests." Some guys will do anything to pick up cute chicks. |
