Hulabird and Harpo, thanks for sharing those incredible photos! I see the potential for some new avatars The english site had a nice link to share the photos.I really liked this one: ![]() I hope this fire can get under control. Bad news about the Santa Anas returning. With all this shifting wind, it sure would be nice if the fire could get blown back over the areas it's already burned! I flew over the burn area Wednesday night on my way home from Northern California. We were pretty low as we were preparing to land in Burbank and it was amazing to see. Everyone on the plane was gasping...then coughing because the smoke started coming in through our air vents. Northern California has several fires going as well but they pale in comparison to the Day fire. I spent Tuesday night and Wednesday in Nevada City in the Sierra Nevada foothills and I thought the smoke was kind of nice: smelled like a campfire. Of course, a couple hours later I felt like death warmed over, with a sore throat, burning eyes and lungs, a killer headache and clogged sinuses. It felt like a really bad cold or flu coming on, and that was just from what seemed a much smaller amount of smoke than what I see blowing from the Day fire. I hope those of you in the path don't have to go through all of this again! |

So many people to thank: Hula and Harpo, your early morning links are fantastic in any language! The photos were taken in Alaska. I noticed that the eagles there were pretty bedraggled. They must have to work harder than they do here! Cumbrian, thank you SO MUCH for capturing the eagle on the nest yesterday! My heart skipped several beats just looking at your post. Thank goddess you and others are there consistently when I can't be. I so appreciate this forum. Thanks to whomever (I can't remember) posted the link to the video of the Maine eagles yesterday. I watched that beautiful nest and nestlings along with Cruz for the whole summer. I'm so excited that the parents are reconstructing so soon!!! I've missed the activity and I know I'm not alone in that. |

Well, the county is preparing for war tonight and tomorrow.. They say the winds will be very strong and will push the fire towards us again.. at best, we will have the horrible ash covering everything and the orange skies again.. The Ventura fairgrounds is the staging area now and there are over 1,000 firefighters gathered there and ready to move into the mountains with their trucks... I live above highway 33 and can see truck after truck making their way into the mountains. They cancelled the flea market Sunday and next weeks Harvest Festival at the fairgrounds...(I love that flea market)... This is the calm before the storm... |

Dr. Sharpe said on the questions thread that it's probably too early for them to be doing nest repair yet, but it's a good sign that they are visiting. Hopefully this means they will be returning from time to time and getting going on things in December. Perhaps they took a look at the state of the nest yesterday and decided procrastination is the best thing right now

Thanks for sharing the link to the fabulous photos. I think the Alaskan eagles look a bit more ragged than ours, because they have a rougher climate to live in. Thery are beautiful with their feathers all ruffled. |

I hope someone is here that can capture the screen! EagleDuo? Whatever it is, it's fairly good size...like Cruz when she was younger. Light colored breast, gray/brown head and feathers. Looking off the other direction so can't see anything else. |

The one I was near was burning about 40 miles north of Nevada City. There are several others but I'm not too familiar with those areas so I don't know if they are near Lodi. Try this site: http://yubanet.com/fire.shtml It gives an update on all the fires. |

My totally uneducated guess would be a Peregrine Falcon. Looks like the sun came out and the light is really good but my resolution is way too blurred to see good details. |

Yay EagleDuo! There's a lot of white on its chest and the photo the IWS crew caught of the Peregrine for Wednesday's update didn't have a white chest, so I'm probably wrong on that guess. |
