Wow!! it is nice to see a big bird on the branch, he is a beauty, looks like a hawk or a falcon. The neststop is getting quite a bit of use lately.

It is lovely to see a big bird on the nest...even if it isn't our family. When I enlarge me screen it is too blurry to make out what it is. Hope someone with a clearer screen can identify exactly what is visiting the nest.
Great pictures Hulabird.

Here are the screen shots I got. I enhanced a couple to help it show up a little better. It is a lot larger than the nest's normal time-share visitors. Think it's too small to be an Osprey? They have white on their chests.

The light and shadows keep fading in and out, so some shots are better than others. I also got a short video of it that is taking forever to upload. I'll post it when it finishes, but I wanted to get these posted right away.

Raptor just left the nest. Thought I saw a shot of red on that tail so maybe it was indeed a Redtailed Hawk!

Of course you'd think he'd know the routine - if you come to this nest, you have to do the whole walk and turn so everyone can see what and who you are! Maybe we should post a little sign on the nest - "sit on the branch facing the camera" Oh well - great to see a bird there - any bird! (if it can't be ours) :P

The first upload failed....after making me wait 15 minutes.....grrrrr.
I reduced the size of it and tried again and here it is. You can really see the shadows fade in and out.

While I was waiting for it to upload, I was reading all the posts and looked up a red-tailed hawk and I think ya'll are right. Look at this picture:

Too bad he wasn't as cooperative about doing a poop-shot before taking off as our eagles are so I could capture that too!

ED: sure could be - if he had just turned a bit more to the camera but with all that everyone posted - hmm - I think it might be right on!

ssssshhhhhhhhh...sneaking on for a bit to see if I missed anything in transit

ED: definitely that was it!! I could see white "underfeathers" of the tail...is that what they are called? You missed the poop shot?? He/she DID poop...when it leaned forward to shoot...that's when I could really tell that the top part of the tail was dark and the underpart was white. It sure camouflaged a lot better onscreen than our bold eagles do!

All of a sudden while watching, black clouds came in and now we are totally overcast...I was hoping for rain but I think we're just getting oppressive humidity. One good thing...it should help the firefighters!! Saw one of their trucks getting on the freeway headed towards Ventura...must have stopped in Carp. for lunch.
