Sandie, grab Bernie aand get out of there. You shouldn't wait til the last minute. Several people have offered shelter.

From the reports I have read on this fire...it is still about 10 miles from Ojai...Santa Paula is still aways from Ventura and although the flames may be visible from Ventura it is not posing a threat to Ventura...Santa Paula and parts of Ojai are under voluntary evacuations as a precaution only. Here in Saugus I saw two different fires in the area, but neither one posed a threat to us here. The Santa Ana Winds are expecteddto die down tomorrow providing firefighters with a chance to again make some progress on the massive "Day Fire". To those living under the smoke plume, it should be getting better in the next few days, but they are calling for similar conditions next weekend as the Santa Ana Winds are expected to return. Good Luck to eveyone in the areas threatened, with luck and the skill of the fire personel and of course mother nature this fire will be put out with minimal damage to property and human lives.

OMG everyone. I just went outside and saw HUGE FLAMES coming down the hillside behind my apartment and toward Santa Paula. How terrifying....The flames keep flaring up wildly with the winds.

Whoa, some one needs to call the fire department on that. The latest updates show the fires miles from that area.

Hulabird I love the cat video. I had a cat that knew what needed to be done to open the knob of the bedroom door so he could get out. He just couldn't get a good enough hold with his paws on the knob. So to wake us up he would leap off the head board onto my husband's chest. This always got him out of the bedroom, not exactly the way he would havr liked however!

Bixby Congratulations on everything working out with both houses. I don't envy you the move, the torch thing sounds pretty good to me if you hadn't found the cleaning service.

Oh gosh, they just broke in on the TV saying "breaking news, fires growing, a new fire burning, details at 11" Everyone take care.

Sandie: I'm so worried for you. I hope you come through this fire without mishap. And to all others in the fire zones, be safe, my thoughts are with you.

HB: I agree, clean up crews on both ends is the only way to go. The Big Bear house was immaculate yesterday, clean as a whistle. I admit, I went up there with a bucket and cleaning supplies, ready to tackle someone elses dirt. What a great surprise to find someone else had done it for me. The ultimate luxury would be to have professional movers come in and pack it all up and move us, but the price of that left our hearts (and pocketbooks) gasping. Luckily, lots of strong backed family members live nearby and will help us get the job done. I promised them all unlimited sky weekends and so had plenty of volunteers.

Well dear friends, time for me to sign off and get back to the packing. Talk to you tomorrow.

Good night to you all, have a pleasant evening.

OmiGod, Sandie and everyone out there............... please take every precaution to get to a safer place now. I keep remembering the people trying to get out of hurricane areas at the last minute! You just can't do it! The traffic was at a stand still.
Only once was I endangered by fire. The woods behind where we lived were on fire and they had a hard time getting a handle on it . It came very, very close to our house. My husband was in Viet Nam and I was alone with the 4 babies. Rest of family lived 700 miles away.
I'll remember the sound of the crackling and the trees exploding and the smell of the smoke as long as I live.
I pray that y'all will be safe. How does the air quality affect all of your birds and other pets? It's not like you can put a flock of birds in the car like a dog or cat.

Sandi, I don't see you signed on. I hope that means you are taking care of yourself and Bernie and your other loved ones and you've gotten out. Same goes to Ojailala, Ojaihikers, everyone else in Ventura County and other fire areas. And apparently that means you too, Oz!

I'm afraid to rely on the online fire updates I've seen. Who knows if they are current. With these winds, things can happen very quickly and new fires can also start.

Example: I went to the post office at 3pm today, with blue skies and lots of wind. When Ben and I left the house at 4:30 to go to dinner, we saw a substantial fire across the hills near Placerita Canyon (maybe 5-10 miles from our house but I think we are out of the danger zone due to riverbed, freeway, etc). There was a ton of smoke, helicopters, firetrucks heading that way, etc. When we left the restaurant about 1.5 hours later, there was much less smoke and the crews seemed to have gained control. YAY- GO FIREFIGHTERS!!!

The point is, danger can obviously pop up so fast, whether with this Day fire or a new fire. I would sure sleep better if all my Ventura County friends got out and spent the night somewhere else tonight. So C'mon -hit up those friends and family members. If nothing else, you and your animals will get some fresh air.

Reading through the posts before I log off for the night.

To everyone in the fire areas.......keep listening to the news and follow the Fire Department's advice. If they say you have to evacuate........YOU GO! Remember to take all your important papers with you....Birth Certificate etc.....When we would be practising our fire drills at the school I used to tell the children " we don't stop to put on our coats etc...we can buy new clothes..but boys and girls are very precious"......so folks, don't wait too long, if it gets close...you get going!

Keep Safe.........

Have a busy day tomorrow again so will not be on line until later........

Good Night Everyone.

No, it is not. I actually think mine was more beautiful but it could be just because it had such sentimental value.
I'll try to post a photo in the Animal Pix forum tomorrow.

Good Evening all...Back from a busy day of work and then I went to a memorial service for a school friend of mine. Never a fun thing to do, but it was a lovely service.

Sandie please be safe and get out don't waste time if things are that close. Up here in Northern California it seems to have calmed. The wind has died down and I hadn't heard of any new fires. They may open up the several East Bay Parks tomorrow that they have closed for safety reasons.

Hulabird great cat video you just never know what those kitties will do. My whiskers has a thing for dish towels. Likes to take them off the counter and drag them around. He also adores any and all perfume smells. I have tried the downy simple pleasures and like that but not the detergent. I will with my next purchase, thanks for the heads up.

Lala sent you a PM...stay safe

Nite all and sleep well.
Elaine glad you are on the mend. Keep resting.
