Sandie: Where do you live?? I drove down 101 yesterday around 6pm and back again at 10:30...didn't see any flames from the freeway. I did see a smoky glow behind a hill somewhere between Camarillo and Ventura. The last fire update I heard on NPR at 11am this morning is that St. Thomas Aquinas College was evacuated last night...all those cars may have been parents going up to get their kids? Also, Upper Ojai Sulphur Mtn to Steckel Park is under mandatory evacuation. Sky is blue and clear here for the most part today...never smelled smoke here at all yesterday/last evening...I got home around midnight. Bixby:I moved two years ago....the only thing worse than packing is......UNpacking!! I still have boxes that haven't been unpacked. But you have the rest of your life to do that in beauuuutiful Big Bear! Lana: I worried about you a bit yesterday...I heard on the radio about that fire that was near Santa Clarita. Sounds like they must have gotten it under control fairly quickly? Hopefully, today will be the end of the Santa Anas for awhile. NPR said the helicopters couldn't fly in the winds yesterday but the air tankers were able to fly in all during the day. I saw a couple flying in and out of Santa Barbara late yesterday afternoon. KCLU has been the best source for radio updates that I've found but they are still few and far between. Teddy: you looked like you were right in the path of the red severe storms on the weather map yesterday...glad you are ok!! |

This morning's update at yubanet.com said that the Day fire has burned over 127,000 acreas and is 40% contained. They gave this update: Highway 150 is now closed from Reeves to Stonegate Road. Thomas Aquinas college is being evacuated. Reccommended evacuations are in effect from Upper Ojai Sulphur Mountain Road to Steckle Park. Please check the Ventura County Sheriff's website, www.vcsd.org/day_fire frequently for evacuation notices road closure. The Topa Topa Lookout was burned Saturday during the major burning event. The tower was built in 1938 by the CCC crews. The lookout has not been manned in years. In World War Two it was used as part of an aircraft warning system. |

Fantastic shots EagleDuo! The eagles seem to be visiting that nest with some frequency, is it closer to their hunting grounds? Its has cooled here today in Oz and fires have been quelled, thankfully. The bad news is I think today is the last day on the planet for our Larry, he can no longer walk or wags his tail, his Daddy thinks it is time with great heartache. Skillis, you have a great time with your baby sister (I am KLJ's baby sis) and be safe. BTW, I uploaded a nature video to the Aust Birds thread in Videos My Monday, off to work, will check in later. KLJinOZ - my heart goes out to you and the members of your family who will miss Larry so. I would venture to say that there is not a solitary member of this forum whose heart is not breaking for you and your husband who have to make the decision that this is 'the time' but as everyone has expressed, you know when that time has come... it sure doesn't make it any easier, though, I have found. big hugs |

My heart is with you as you make this decision. My mom had to have her golden put to sleep because of kidney disease and she was only 6. I miss her so much. but it is best that they not suffer. My prayers are with you and for Larry. |

KLJinOZ (Kath): I am so sorry that Larry is in such dire straights, I know you will miss him. I cried for 3 days after Pickles my first caique died. We are all with you in spirit. I hadn't read all of the posts when I read your PM, so I am sorry that I didn't know. sylvia |

KLJinOz I'm so sorry to hear of Larry's decline. I know all to well what hard choices there are to make. Just know that I'm praying for all of you as you spend your precious moments with Larry. You and your family have given him a good life. Lulu will be waiting for Larry at the Rainbow Bridge I know. |

KLJinOZ - So sorry to hear about Larry. My prayers are with you. I have had to make this decision before and it was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. Quality of life is what counts, but it doesn't make it any easier. Think of all the good times and all the love you shared. |

KLJinOZ - I'm "here" at this forum most all the time and don't post too often. But I logged in to let you know along with the others how sorry I am about Larry. I'm just in tears. We love our human family but our animal family members are important, too, in kind of a different, special way. My heart aches for you and your husband and family. I don't know anything to say to ease the pain, but I honestly believe we will see ALL our family members again someday. . .and that helps me. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. |

KLJinOZ: I am so sad to hear about your Larry. These times are never easy. I am dealing with my Dog Tessa, who has been fighting lymphomia cancer. She has had several tumors removed and is now on the chemo drugs, she is 11. She has her good days and bad days. She is my girl and I love her. I know what you are going through and even though we do know that we have to do the right thing for them when they give us the "look", it still tears our hearts out. My thoughts are with you and the family at this most difficult time. Poor little Larry!! Just know the sorrow is for us as Larry is going to a much better place. . . Rainbow Bridge. |
