...just returned from being out in the smoke all day. I could not tell you where we went but my honey took his truck and we hauled animals out of the valley/Santa Paula today. What a sad state of affairs. I can't believe how frightened the horses were. We just hauled them to safer ground. It was really smokey where we were. I also saw, what I think, was the DC10 that they talked about using on the fire. That is one big plane!

Big Kudos to you & your honey, Sandi! I sure they appreciated his truck and both of your help!!! Hope you didn't inhale too much smoke!

So how long have the clickable smilies been moving or is that from your touch Jann or Hulabird? They are sure cute.

How much inner peace have you had, Sandi??? :P
Or are you delusional from all the smoke you inhaled today??? :o

Wonder if it is because the other two nests are overlooking the water on Catalina Island, that they each have been visited by two Adults today?

It would be nice to see our Mom/Dad visit our nest.........

Patti has posted new information on the Tech Thread about the SnagIt program she is capturing screen shots with.....very successfully......and I also posted info on the program that Bea is using too. So this may be of some interest to other members that have been wanting to try their hand at screen captures. Both programs are for PC's.

Hey, it will be great if several of us can do captures next season.....as we have sponsored several nests, and three of them have Cams, we may have to work out a schedule so that we can cover all bases...or in this case nests! Wouldn't that be something!

Good question. Hope we start to see more of the adults on the nestominium! :D

Great idea about sharing the screen capture duties among several people. It's too much for one person to do....especially once things really get underway! Doesn't that sound exciting!?!?!

I feel so bad for Larry's mom and dad....I'm still crying for him and the way he decided to end things... He might as well be mine for the tears that I have....

I have been feeling the same thing all day today. :( My $25 matching donation in honor of Larry goes in to IWS tomorrow.

Appears there should be more categories for "Hero" since all 10 nominated are worthy of the award, but all seem to be involved in some type of rescue sanctuary.  I think Dr. Sharpe should be at the top of the list in some type of research (or maybe Chief of Staff of the eaglet maternity ward?)  Just kidding, but seems to me there should be another category.  Anyone agree?

I was thinking the same thing. I agree that the work that all of these people are doing and have done is very valuable work, and I am grateful that they are doing it, but it all seemed to be the same kind of work -- rescue/rehab. Maybe that was the key. Peter and IWS are restoring species. It seems like a whole other level.

But hey . . . #61 broke his leg, and he had to be rehabilitated, right? :)

Oz: I just read your final yesterday post about Larry. Geez...I don't know what to say...tears streaming down my face in heartache for Rex and you. Somehow it seems fitting that Larry went on while Rex was with his mate, Ian...very nice the way he processed home with him. My heart goes out to you both...and to Larry's brother. I'll be making a donation to IWS in memory of Larry, as well.

Good nite.

Sandie, that was really selfless of you and your partner to help out with the relocation of the animals. I'm sure their owners (and the animals) were very grateful. It always touches me when people help other people -- people they don't know. Chokes me up.

Watching the 2HarbNest, its really hard to see anything and I dont think it is the sun, maybe the camera is whacked?

Peter responded to a question in another thread that he didn't know why the camera on the Two Harbors Nest was acting up. I think I remember him saying that he plans on replacing the camera this season.

The lens on the Two Harbors nest cam housing is dirty and gets a lot of the late day sun, so it is hard to see. Also, the camera I put in this spring does not seem to be adjusting properly, so it is overly bright. I'll be replacing it in October or November.

Wow. That will teach me to try to pull one of Peter's comments from my memory. He might be reading the post! Thanks for the clarification, Peter. (Also, I think the camera picture zig zagging that day was on the West End nest and not the Two Harbors nest. So, I stand corrected on two points.)

Going to say goodnight now--

HB--glad you liked SnagIt images---I am very very happy with it! When there are eagles in the nest, I won't bother with borders. I'll post plain captures, but I'm having a lot of fun learning how to navigate around the options.

Sandie--I think it's wonderful that you were involved with animal transporting. You must be feeling great about that. I sure would.

Looking forward to the camera changes on the Two Harbors nest. No offense.

Kath-Oz--I ordered another t-shirt and hat last week and will have to tell my hubby that his hat is a memorial donation.

This was a cute post on Bald Eagles on the Federation of Fly Fishers Forum:

Turkey vs Bald Eagle
« on: Nov 23rd, 2005, 3:33pm » Quote Modify

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tomorrow is Turkey Day here in the States, Thanksgiving Day.

Old Ben Franklin wanted to make the Turkey our national bird.

Can you imagine the implications of that?

We wouldn’t be able to use turkey feathers for tying flies, but that is not the worst of it.

If the turkey was the national bird instead of the Bald Eagle, we would all be basting Bald Eagles in our ovens tomorrow. I can’t help but think that an eagle just doesn’t taste very good with all that fish it eats.

Happy Turkey Day to everyone!!!!

Larry
