OK people. I know at least one of you must need some work done on your computer. I've just spent a huge amount of good money that could have been donated to IWS for a software program that I can use to get my mitts on all that spyware and other garbage like Norton Internet Security in your computer. Can I practice on you? For a small donation of course to IWS. I'm going to run out of money to donate if I don't master this program soon. I need practice with nice people who will have patience with my blonde learning curve. Is that person you? Waiting on your PM. |

And we're of course gearing up for the return of mom and dad to begin nestorations! (sooner than later we hope!!!

I'm pretty sure the comment on that site about eagles flying 200mph to catch their prey isn't really true - that must be a mixup with peregrine falcons, which are the only raptors who would approach that speed. Bald eagles wouldn't get nearly that fast, as they don't catch their prey in that fashion (i.e. dropping in a full dive by stopping and catching their prey in midair) like peregrines do. Balds are usually scooping fish at low speed from the water, so they wouldn't want that much speed. |

ostrich2: I hadn't read the article yet but in a quick good search!! cause you had me curious - the only reference I found: "The Golden Eagle is magnificent when flying and soaring and can attain speeds of 148 to 198 mph when diving. " Hmmm will have to ask Dr. Sharpe and do some more good searching ...... that's pretty darn fast! |

I think sometimes a site will post something which isn't quite right or will mix something up, and then other sites will end up picking up the same thing and repeat it, so it kind of takes on a life of it's own. I'm not absolutely positive the 200mph number is wrong, just about 95% sure, at least as far as bald eagles are concerned. I don't know about goldens - they might have more of a need to dive on their prey than balds do. Hopefully Dr. Sharpe will see this and be able to clear it up for us. |

I would think it's not a sustained speed - but how high would the eagle have to go (either of them) to get to that speed? But again, look how fast some animals can run!! - not at sustained speeds though! I run about -10 miles an hour

I've thought about it but this particular one is only 6 mos old (or so) and it's hubby's for his work at home! Maybe I should have you do my laptop? I'm giving it some thought! We have 2 at work but one of those is my boss' and he just plays on the internet (he can just about turn it on) The other I never mess with cause it has all the files and I'd die if something happened to it - .... |
