Patti, you are one of the reasons I love this forum. I laughed out loud at your A-49 drawing on the nest. It was perfect...

Cumbrian, I have a nearby neighbor who practices the bagpipes in their backyard, not sure where their place is, around the corner from me in one of the duplexes; but the sound would drift into my backyard. This has been going on for several years, and he/she was just awful to begin with...I used to close my windows when he played, always Auld Lang Syne (sp?). But as time went on, this mystery person got better and I would be drawn to my patio to listen... Haven't heard the music lately, hope they haven't moved...

Ok, my vote is for Peter if we have a boy eaglet next season...........

If we have a girl Eaglet ......how about HulaBird/Deb .....after all she was the one that started this fundraiser off and now we have 7... nearly 8 nests..........Way To Go Guys!  :D  Just my two cents worth.

Well, we've all previously decided that the first nest would be named Cumbrian. No ifs, ands, or buts or even votes there, it's a done deal.

Second Nest? After Dr. Peter Sharpe...

Third nest? That's where the vote/poll comes in...

Got it Karen. Love MaMiMoBa Mom's idea of coming up with a conglomerate name that represents all of us. (PS, I just love typing in her name, I never take a shortcut)

This thread is misdated... should be Sept 26, not 16.... I got confused at first... Not the first time this has happened. I suggest the person opening the daily thread have a cup of coffee before opening up! Or another glass of wine for you night owls...

Actually Debi, it was Harpo's suggestion, but I do think it would be cute to try to come up with a bunch of our initials to form a name. And uh, are you avoiding my earlier post??? :( Still waiting for some pics!

E-gads---I'm still doing bird chores & dragging my fanny this evening. Kind of bleary-eyed for some reason and feeling dense.

Back to work...fear I will shut down the pc after I finish...but have enjoyed that you liked the Pink Eagle nest visit today. Maybe more to come tomorrow.

Hulabird sounds like you been running the thread today girl! You go...Just got home a bit ago and came home to a message from the Pleasant Hill PD. They want to talk to me as I was a witness to the fire hydrant hit and run. There is something fishy about this whole thing someone is not telling the truth. They seem to have located the vehicle parked right under our noses. I feel like CSI here. I'm doing my best to fight crime. Several homeowners sustained damage from all of the water what a mess.

Getting excited as on Thursday I will be making a trip to Hawk Hill in the Marin Headlands to do some hawk migration sightings. This is the time to watch and hopefully we will see some good things. The weather should be good and hopefully the fog will lift. We are having some very mild fall days right now. I will keep you all posted.

Gonna pour myself a glass of wine....Don't want Hulabird to drink alone

I'm pretty sure the comment on that site about eagles flying 200mph to catch their prey isn't really true - that must be a mixup with peregrine falcons, which are the only raptors who would approach that speed. Bald eagles wouldn't get nearly that fast, as they don't catch their prey in that fashion (i.e. dropping in a full dive by stopping and catching their prey in midair) like peregrines do. Balds are usually scooping fish at low speed from the water, so they wouldn't want that much speed.

I tend to agree. I've never heard of an eagle flying that fast, and it would really have no reason for their way of hunting.
