Wow, I just now got finished reading all the posts and catching up with everyone. I only missed one day and am so far behind so when I am gone for two weeks I will be lost. I will have to start all over again. Gulp! Thank you everyone for the Bon Voyage!! I will be taking a back pack and hopefully not dragging my fanny. Oh Thank you Cumbrian. I just now saw your post when I went back to catch up. I leave Friday at 6:00 am. I love all the history over there. I never thought about the kilts and bagpipes scaring the ememy. Makes sense. My mother LOVED the bagpipes so I am sure that when I see them I will start bawling my eyes out remembering her, she would have loved to have gone so she will be with me in spirit. I have been doing a lot of goodsearch searches on Scotland and the history and find it very interesting and donating at the same time. Although we have no set plans and are just going to be winging it, we do plan to stay 3 days in Edinburg, go to the Isle of Sky to see the Dunvegan Castle and I think she said we were going to stay a couple days in the Sterling area. Thanks for the heads up about the eagles, I will have to er, well keep my head up scanning the skies. I am passing on the suggestions to her. I am just following her as it is her trip and her birthday the day we land in Edinburg. So I am thinking that night will be spent in a Pub somewhere celebrating. |

 I just Goodsearched fanny! My mom has wonderful caregivers from the Philippines. When they first learned that mom's dog was named Kiki, they could barely contain their laughter. It means the same thing as fanny~~ What we learn! Edit:--I have to lurk the rest of the day and will not be in the computer area. This task should be completed in a few days. |

Good morning everyone. You are all cracking me up with having to Goodsearch for 'you know what'!!! Being an ex-Brit living in Canada it is very easy to use .....shall we say inappropriate words..... because where you came from they have an entirely different meaning. For example, when I was in College here, about 6 months after we arrived, I was using a pencil to take notes and wanted to erase something.....of course I used the English word.....begins with R has six letters and ends with R...the other student looked at me in shock! WELL...I didn't know????!!!!! Trunk of a car to us is the Boot. The Hood is the Bonnet. Dustbin for Garbage. Etc Etc. The preschool children were highly entertained learning all these new words! My cousin's boy, Scots mother/Welsh father/ he and his sister born here, was being assessed when he was young and he was asked where he would walk.....pavement or sidewalk? His answer was the pavement. That is a sidewalk in Britain.......the road is what cars etc use! Needless to say his mother had to explain to the person doing the assessing that he really didn't have a death wish! Great captures Patti........ Got to go out for short while.........Catch you all later..... |

Great shots Patti Language differences: 1st time we went to England to visit our new found friends - we had flown all night - traveled all day so while waiting for Elaine's husband to come home, she offered us a soda (pop if you are from the midwest) and biscuits! Well we didn't want a biscuit so we declined. She came out of the kitchen a minute later with COOKIES! Well we would have some of those ....... we didn't know! While eating out she ordered cordials for her kids and we were shocked - but learned that's juice boxes!! DUH.......

Good morning everyone! Just caught up with allllll of the posts from yesterday evening. I spent the evening on the couch watching tv with my son...not something we get to do together very often with our schedules and different tastes in television! I goodsearched fanny, too.....now where on earth did those Aussies come up with that??? my oh my! Just a comment about naming next year's eagle babies....seems a bit premature to me to be picking out names. We have no way of knowing how many viable eaglets there will be and/or what their personalities will be like...let alone whether they be little princes, princesses, or just plain brats! I say we hold off until next summer when we know who there is to name. Just think...there MIGHT be some brothers & sisters sharing nests? Just my opinion. Hulabird: I heard on the weather this morning that Oahu is getting a LOT of rain...like TEN INCHES...and several funnel clouds!!!! Are you all ok there?? |

Hi everyone.. Have a wonderful trip Teri...Ojai update: Smokey!!! Not clear like yesterday... Not that it matters much, but I had a turkey in the house this morning (not a turkey in the refrigerator) just walking into the kitchen along with his two new best pals, the peacock and hen.. That's what I get for leaving the front door open. they usually get some dry cat food brought to them at the front door, but since I wasn't there and the door was open, they decided to help themselves... We all jumped at the same time as I came in the back door.. it was funny to see them scramble to get out of the house. |

I made the announcement that 200,000 square miles were burned, but I think that figure is wrong and not sure where I heard it.. more like 150,000.. still, too many miles and too many animals in the way.. The condor sanctuary is really going to see changes this next year with so many animals gone...I know some good things come from fire, but its hard to see it right now. |

Ojailala: I wondered about that 200,000 sq miles yesterday...I heard on the news this morning that it's like 246 sq miles and close to 150,000 acres. That's probably where you got those numbers. Not smoky here but I sure have been sneezing. |
