Ack, no wonder the camera is so unclear. Do you need A-49ers to donate more money for this camera? Should we stop viewing these cams for now? Please let us know if we should stay off those 2 cams for now? Are we spending more in bandwidth than we're making in support?

It is fine to watch the cameras. We upgraded our monthly bandwidth and monitor its use. They actually turn off our site now when our maximum is reached. I don't know what makes the West End cam fuzz out at certain times of the day. I've sat out there monitoring the signal and it never does it while I'm there. I think it is in the transmission of the video at the third and final link. I'll try to figure it out again this fall. The Two Harbors camera is just a dirty lens and a faulty camera.

Thanks to Eagle Duo ("the man in black") and Nancy for the GREAT links that further add to our knowledge base!!
(Though I think I was better off NOT knowing that such a high percentage of fledglings don't make it when attempting their first flight - now we just have to worry about the first winter... but our girl is in Southern California (at least, for now) and NOT in Maine or Alaska and is she is strong and tenacious and has bright yellow feet. :) )

That website is wrong. Forty percent do not survive their FIRST YEAR. In ten years I've never had an eaglet not survive its first flight.

Karen, I'm with you. Don't want anything to do with snakes. I know they're a necessary part of our environment....just keep them far far away from me! Snakes are the main reason I don't camp. Have heard too many stories of snakes (and other creepy crawlies) climbing in sleeping bags with people at night for the warmth. :o  :o

Cumbrian just posted a great explanation of doing the photos side-by-side under QUESTIONS>>TECH HELP for anyone interested. I knew she could explain it better than I could. Thanks, Cumbrian! :D

There was a long discussion of this issue during the Saanich nest, and we concluded this must have been one of those website mixups between juvenile survival rate and fledging survival rate (like the eagle-peregrine falcon speed issue). From the numbers that were quoted on some sites, if you took the number they gave just for not surviving fledging, and then added in the mortality due to predators, lack of food, failed hatching, etc, it couldn't be right since there'd be virtually no survivors left. Somebody has to survive to make it to the next generation :D

Hi to all. Another long day of packing boxes has come to an end. Finished up the kitchen and tomorrow we will load the truck, and head for Big Bear with the first load on Saturday. We met the people who are buying our Vista house this evening. They came over so Bill (hubby) could show them how the pool filter, sprinkler systems, timers, etc are set up and/or work. They are really a great couple, and they just love the house and yards. They also love birds and are going to continue to feed them. I'm so relieved that my wild birdies will be taken care of. I'll leave the feeders and a supply of food for them. I'm really happy I'm passing my house on to such nice people.

HB, loved the fan and bassett pix, that dog is loving the breeze.

Troth/Teri, have a wonderful and safe trip.

Thanks to all you screen capture wizards: I sure enjoyed your pictures.

ElaineRuth, hope you're OK, sounds like your storm is a real gully washer. Regarding Bixby's B's avatar, it's pretty ironic. The funny thing is, as car sick as he gets, he has no trouble riding in the boat, so I think he is driving a boat, not a car, in the avatar!

Well, off to dreamland.

Good night dear friends, have a pleasant evening.

LOL Peppermint. There are no snakes in Hawaii except for a couple of ones that were confiscated at the airport and now live in the zoo. This year, I bought 130 acres in Nevada just because I could (there's literally no such thing as 130 acres in Hawaii and if there was it would cost several billion dollars). My husband reminded me of rattlesnakes and other critters I'd totally forgotten about since I've lived here so now we're looking to donate the whole thing to an animal rescue or wildlife restoration project. Dr Sharpe said they're reintroducing wolverines in that area.

Ditto!!! They may have their place in the ecosystem, which is tolerable....as long as their place and my place are faaaaaaarrrrrrr apart! :P
