Good morning all and yes!!! T.G.I.F.!!!
Wanna apologize before hand for this long post, but this following article is from today's Ventura County Star online and it is about the hunting issue on Santa Rosa Island. Thought you guys may want to know, so I copied it here. Not sure if a link would do as I believe you have to log in to read articles.

From Ventura County Star online 9-29-06:

Deal will allow hunting on Santa Rosa Island
By Erica Werner, The Associated Press
September 29, 2006

WASHINGTON — Deer and elk trophy hunts on Santa Rosa Island would continue under a deal reached today by congressional negotiators. The plan defies a federal court settlement and is strongly opposed by the National Park Service, which wants the nonnative game removed from the island off the coast of Ventura County.
Language permitting the hunts was included in the final version of an annual defense bill agreed to by House and Senate negotiators as Congress completes work before recessing for the Nov. 7 elections, according to Democratic House aides.
That means the plan is likely to become law. The House and Senate were expected to give final approval later Friday or Saturday to the $448 billion defense bill.

House Armed Services Committee Chairman Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., pushed the hunting plan over objections from congressional Democrats including Rep.
Lois Capps, D-Calif., whose district includes Channel Islands National Park.

Santa Rosa Island is the second-largest of five islands in the Channel Islands park.

Under the federal court settlement, private trophy hunts now run on 53,000-acre island are supposed to end in 2011, and the deer and elk are to be removed.

The Park Service bought Santa Rosa Island in 1986 for $30 million from a local ranching family that still owns the hunting concession. Litigation over terms of the deal led to the court settlement.

The Park Service says the hunts and the nonnative game interfere with indigenous plants and animals on the undeveloped and remote island, including some endangered species. The hunts also restrict public access since much of the island is off limits to visitors while they go on.

Hunter has said his legislation is meant to give military veterans, particularly those who are paralyzed, somewhere to go for hunting and recreation.

But the group Paralyzed Veterans of America cited repeatedly by Hunter in support of his plan announced over the summer that it opposed the idea because of the difficulty of traveling to and around the island, which has bumpy dirt roads and can only be reached by boat or plane.

Thanks, Bea--I hope NONE of the vets ever make it to Santa Rosa Island. I guess you know how I feel about it.

A nest visitor at about 11:15 a.m. or earlier...the upper left shot was taken about 20 mintues later at 11:40. This bird seemed to be quite larger; maybe the larger Island jay? I don't see either of them well. The upper left bird has the light breast--whatever it is.

I just got this from a friend and thought I'd pass this information on to ya'll. It has to do with recycling old cell phones to help save the endangered Lowland Gorillas. We heard about it the last time we were at Wild Animal Park and are turning our old cell phones in there. I hope you'll this out and look around your area for a good place to recycle your old cell phones or consider mailing it to the Cincinnati Zoo to help their cause.

I'm beginning to feel like I'm talking to myself here. But that's okay....sometimes I even answer myself! :P

Here's a great article about a bald eagle's rehabilitation and release in the northwest. Be sure to click on the link at the bottom of the article for the video of the release....after a commercial, unfortunately. Can't win 'em all.

It wasn't there long, but I did get a couple shots of it:

I also caught a couple shots on an eagle (looked like #81 when I enlarged it) on the Two Harbors nest:

.....and then 'POOF' it was gone.

Those are great shots, ED! Thanks!

TN -- I have done a ton of searches on GoodSearch in the last three days. I have to do a PowerPoint presentation and the company I work for doesn't want to spring for a graphics package. Since I have to use graphics, that means I have to find them somewhere. And that means lots of searches on GoodSearch! :D

Those of you who are so clever with your graphics on this forum -- What are your favorite internet sites that you find them? Or do you purchase packages?
