OK, I propose a toast of inner peace...
In honor of our A49 Cruz making the flight to Santa Rosa...
...and KLJinOz finishing a big essay, and Hulabird being back in the nest, and all of the other forum members' celebrations of home sales, vacations, feeling better, avoiding fires and wicked storms, and everything else: I raise a toast! :D

I'll drink to that!

Lana, me too! Of course, Eagle Duo and I would be willing to drink to most anything. Do we still count? Right now I'm drinking to poor Sandie's computer being degunked of spywre/viruses/McAfee/ and Zone-freakin'-Alarm. Yaaaaaayyyyy Sandie!

PS, I forgot to get my hall pass before I stepped out today. Will not happen again.

And that hunter thing on Santa Rosa Island, DO NOT GET ME STARTED.

Hi all, done with the packing. I'm drinking a toast too....however it's just tap water, the booze is packed.

The truck is packed from front to back and top to bottom. You couldn't get another piece of paper in it. All the boxes and a lot of the lighter furniture are stowed away. We head for Big Bear at 7am tomorrow.

I'm off to bed, need my beauty sleep for tomorrow's big adventure.

Good night, have a pleasant evening.

Good morning all and yes!!! T.G.I.F.!!!
Wanna apologize before hand for this long post, but this following article is from today's Ventura County Star online and it is about the hunting issue on Santa Rosa Island. Thought you guys may want to know, so I copied it here. Not sure if a link would do as I believe you have to log in to read articles.

From Ventura County Star online 9-29-06:

Deal will allow hunting on Santa Rosa Island
By Erica Werner, The Associated Press
September 29, 2006

WASHINGTON — Deer and elk trophy hunts on Santa Rosa Island would continue under a deal reached today by congressional negotiators. The plan defies a federal court settlement and is strongly opposed by the National Park Service, which wants the nonnative game removed from the island off the coast of Ventura County.
Language permitting the hunts was included in the final version of an annual defense bill agreed to by House and Senate negotiators as Congress completes work before recessing for the Nov. 7 elections, according to Democratic House aides.
That means the plan is likely to become law. The House and Senate were expected to give final approval later Friday or Saturday to the $448 billion defense bill.

House Armed Services Committee Chairman Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., pushed the hunting plan over objections from congressional Democrats including Rep.
Lois Capps, D-Calif., whose district includes Channel Islands National Park.

Santa Rosa Island is the second-largest of five islands in the Channel Islands park.

Under the federal court settlement, private trophy hunts now run on 53,000-acre island are supposed to end in 2011, and the deer and elk are to be removed.

The Park Service bought Santa Rosa Island in 1986 for $30 million from a local ranching family that still owns the hunting concession. Litigation over terms of the deal led to the court settlement.

The Park Service says the hunts and the nonnative game interfere with indigenous plants and animals on the undeveloped and remote island, including some endangered species. The hunts also restrict public access since much of the island is off limits to visitors while they go on.

Hunter has said his legislation is meant to give military veterans, particularly those who are paralyzed, somewhere to go for hunting and recreation.

But the group Paralyzed Veterans of America cited repeatedly by Hunter in support of his plan announced over the summer that it opposed the idea because of the difficulty of traveling to and around the island, which has bumpy dirt roads and can only be reached by boat or plane.

Bea. I've been posting about this issue every so often for 4 months. My latest posting was on the IWS Wednesday, Sept 27 Update. It's a political issue.. and I resent the fact that it is political at all.... It should be a no-brainer.... restore our Islands to their natural flora and fauna. Get the elk and pigs off the islands and bring back the those little foxes and bald eagles...

Our support for the Nature Conservancy, IWS, NPS, and the Ventura Office of Education will help meet these goals...
