Good Grief you guys have been busy since I went back to sleep...and for a Sunday at that!

LBtheScot...I was just in your neck of the woods and haven't been there for a long time. Lots more grapes growing on them there hills than I remember. Looks nice though to see all the green instead of brown brown brown. The tunnel from here to there always reminds me of my daddy. His horn blowing was the absolutely the best. We had a great snatch of some bakery goods too. Sorta like Solvang without all the tourists.

Nancy...since you at the birdy one!! How can I tell what bird I am looking at. It's a black one that just soars mostly. Feathery like wing tips with a black triangle shape underneath. Is that a hawk?? Talk to me about little birds and I kind know up to parrots that is.

Hulabird....permission slip? How can we do that if you dont tell us where you are going so we can visualize or imagine where you are going. Sorry that hypnotherapy training is taking over. I still can't get over my neighbor showing up in your city today!! Diet Pepsi in one gulp...my kinda girl!!! Put that together with my chocolate chip cookie good to go play all day.

Catzsong...you've got to get up early with Eagle Duo and I around. thank goodness Jann/Dave know what day it is when they open the thread that early. I'm always in the dark on that one.

Harpo516...I always have to stand on a step stool to dust. I can never see the top of anything. Everyone is taller than me though so I guess I am doomed to my step stool

It sure is overcast. I went outside last night and I thought it was much darker than usual. The light over the mail boxs was out...duh. I thought it was really fall taking over!

If I even told you what I was doing today, all of you would have a deep slumber overcome your bodies and would feel an overwhelming need to go back to bed. Our excitement level around here is a negative number. So just give me my permission slip, don't ask any questions, and nobody will get hurt.

Hi to all. What a nice change to be able to say that in the day light.

H-Bird: Bixby B stayed home during the move yesterday, the final move is next Saturday and then he'll get his sedative and head on up with us. He's in such a state today I gave him a quarter dose just to calm him down. Now about that negative excitment level: that is just wrong! You for sure need to drag that bed out in front and torch it and stir up the neighborhood. I'm not going to sign that permission slip unless the activity generates excitment in the positive number range.

I got a chance to check out all the nests, didn't see any members of our extended eagle families, but it was nice to see how everything looks.

Everyone, hope you're all having a good Sunday. We're off to Sears in a bit. The fridge we ordered for the Big Bear house is a half inch too hight, so we need to get one a little shorter..grrrrrr.

Talk to ya later.

Bixby sounds like your move is going "smoothly" - don't envy you the task but do envy the destination!

HB - I agree - permission granted! We ended up at home finally and I feel guilty about all the work we just keep ignoring soooo we're cutting baseboard fo rthe hallway - caulking - and putting down the base for the new shower that hopefully will finally be going in!! And the birds need a thorough cleaning but that will have to wait until tomorrow (I'm off Mon). Moty (mother of the year) has been playing with one particular NOISY toy all day ---- I need to convince her to try something a bit more quiet! hee hee

And of course can't wait to see how we did in the fundraising endeavor! I know we did really well - hoping that we did GREAT!! :P

On Travel channel they are talking about nat'l parks and right now particularly the condors returning to the Grand Canyon (which I did see earlier this summer) Oh now they are talking and showing chicks that were hatched and nurtured to be released to the Canyon! They are so cute (no matter what everyone says).

OK back to sawing and hammering!

Ok I'm back enough of those nasty chores for today. It is very blustery and cold feel like I should curl up and watch a movie.

Sandie sounds like you are looking at a turkey vulture. They mostly soar and have white underneath like you are describing. Believe me I'm no expert on bird ID but I do enjoy trying to figure it out. Went to my local bird store to buy some more special treats for all of my peeps :D (ooh that rhymes!)

Hulabird here is the hummingbird nest as promised. For all who don't know this is a nest that was in my yard a couple of years ago. It fell from the tree, after the birth and fledging of course. I have it on a special shelf in my house.
And Hulabird that other photo just happened to be taken in the "clean corner" of my house, the pathway to the front door

Sorry for the big picture

Took a wonderful hike this morning. The helicopters are still flying over head putting out the last of the fire. It's balmy and grey with little rain drops in the air. I started to think of Cruz this morning, leaving the island with her friends. This song came to my mind by James Taylor. I changed it a lot.

As the moon rises she sings out a song,
A song that they sing when they take to the sea,
A song that they sing of their home in the sky,
She sings out a song that is soft but it's clear,
As if some one could hear.
Deep greens and blues are the colors I choose,
Won't you let me go fly in my dreams,
With 10 miles behind me,
10,000 more to go .
And rock a-bye sweet baby Cruz..

It was something being able to watch the eagle cam, wasn't it. You can see why so many people are attached to the spirit of the eagle. Our National bird.

I don't know if I did this right or not but this is the link I got to a picutre of 9 baby panda bears all piled up in China....so cute!

Ojaihicker...I am so glad you were able to "get out" and give us low landers a report of the fire. We had huge drops of rain here just a little while ago and all I could think of was the fire and hoping it was dousing those flames!

Bixby sounds like the move is moving along! I don't envy you at all. I am still trying to finish up with the tenting ordeal. I am procrastinating though. Poor puppy is probably in major trauma, especially if he needs sedation. Good luck getting it all done. I'm amazed you are still "with us" in the midst of it all.

Nancy thanks for the id info. I just watch them in utter amazement. We have quite a few large birds around here. I live on about the last street in the city of Ventura and within hearing distance of the coyotes at night.

On my trip to Santa Maria I saw so many dead animals. Even a deer on the roadside. I was unhappy to see so many killed. I guess they were trying to get away from the fires and ran on to the road. The deer though, surprised me. Poor things.

Hulabird have a great time out there. Just remember us here thinking about the roads over there...oops envy all gone!

Deb - the way to clean house is to remove your glasses, contact lenses, whatever. It really makes cleaning a snap!

Getting sprinkles here in the desert so hopefully they are getting more "down below" so the fires will go out.

Is anyone watching the Panda Cam? The baby finally looks like a real, albeit a tiny, panda. She is starting to crawl. Remember to right click for full screen.

Spinach coming in here that was grown in Canada so it is safe. Hooray for Canada!

Kathy-Oz,
I've been meaning to ask:
Bindi Irwin's accent ..... it didn't seem to be Australian. Is it?
Thanks!
