Poor Bindi will suffer from a half caste profile, my daughter suffered this too at an early stage of her talking life, but the more time she spent with her friends, of course the less she sounded like her mom! I'm not sure if her home school teacher is a Yank or Aussie either, which will also influence her speech. I too suffer the stateless accent, having lived in Oz now for more than half of my adult life. People ask me here where am I from, and when in the States, people ask me where I am from!

I'm going to guess then that she has very English tutors, whether in school or at home!
It sounds too British to me.

Here are a couple more screen shots of the eagle on the West End nest. Appears to just be peering out over the water.....possibly looking for dinner. Something black keeps showing up on the upper right-hand area (see 3rd picture). Wondering what it might be. Any ideas or guesses?

Nancy - I get the white-crowned sparrow down in my area - when I took a Bird I.D. Class one Fall, I remember well being out on a field trip and one of the class members identifying the call of the white-crowned sparrow and then she quickly started thumbing through a small spiral notebook that she carried along with her field guide and made the statement 'The earliest I have ever heard them in our area is September 25th'. It astounded me (at the time) that #1) someone could ID a bird by sound without sight and #2) that ANYone would devote so much time to making such detailed notations. The class (20 ? years ago) opened up my eyes so much to my everyday surroundings and for that I am soooo grateful - since then, of course, I let those sounds in and filter them and I, too, am aware when the first White-Crowned Sparrow announces its arrival - I don't keep notes but always think of my classmate (her name was Nancy, also) - my harbinger of Fall arrived 2 days ago! I will have to pay closer attention to them in my area to see if there are any golden-crowned sprinkled in - they come this far south but think they prefer a more woodsy habitat. The wrens and warblers are also starting to drift in and I had a common yellowthroat in the birdbath this morning... and who says California has no seasons? We just just have to be a bit more in tune to notice! ;)

Good captures, Jann! No Video all day for me for 2H nest.

Edit: Don't you wonder why one person's web camera is frozen and the next guy's isn't? #69 is still sitting in my WE nest and it's still 15:33:28

Back to my little project I still haven't completed, which MUST be completed. Phooey.

Oz: I'm from Ohio (never knew I had an accent) and moved to NY some years ago - well I've rubbed off on my husband who is NY born and bred and now people here can't figure out where's he from and when we're in Ohio - they can't quite place him! Tee hee - I haven't picked up the NY accent but I've sure learned to pick neutral words so I don't get laughed at using Ohio slang! soda/pop sneakers/tennis shoes wash/"warsh" and so on! I just order Pepsi now :D

ED: love that "shot" for sure!!!

You'd be surprised that a lot of private school kids sound British, there is a definite territorial accent in Oz, and even in Sydney basin, the 'North Shore' hoity toidy (like Bindi and my daughter), the 'westies', with 'me' instead of 'my' (hat, wallet, jacket, etc) and the Greek or Italian community, a long "yeahhhhhh". Country people talk without opening their mouths (to keep the flies out??!!) and I have noticed that when country women (and all my husband's family are country) are chatting to each other, there is a lot of acquiescent 'Hmmmm" going on (as if to say 'yes, I'm paying attention or agreeing').

A couple black birds showed up hoping to find some leftovers. Must not have found any as they didn't stay long.

OK.

It was just that she didn't sound like her father or her mother (or any Australian accent I'm familiar with).

Thanks!

What a beautiful license plate! :D :D I saw one with a whale's tale while we were out today. Wish California had one with a bald eagle on it......we don't, do we?
