Peppermint, Re football, Oz had TWO grandfinal (as close to Superbowl as you can get) footy matches on this weekend:
1. Australia Rules Football (Aussie Rules) a really interesting game to watch played in a round field, Sydney Swans lost by ONE point to the Perth EAGLES~ ;)
2. Australian Rugby League (ARL), no Sydney teams, Brisbane Bronocs won over Melbourne Storm.

There is also Australia Rugby which is an English sport, similar to ARL, I hardly ever watch that sport.

Grid iron (US football) is not on the public channels except for some playoffs and Superbowl match, and where I live I cant get cable, so dont get to watch much of it. I love college games, talent is usually so raw!

Oz: So is Aussie football anything like US football? Or is it more like soccer? I know football in other countries usually means soccer. A round field...hmmmmm....sounds interesting!

I guess Sunday night is not the night to party. The grandkids are here for the night. I just got to hold my sleeping granddaughter for a half hour. I'm going to bed while I still remember how it was to be in heaven. Night all. :D

Hi everybody, I made it home alive from Hulabird's excellent adventure. We had to go take a refrigerator to W's niece today and since she lives in a dorm at UH, which is close to Waikiki, I did a small driving tour for you peeps (since I couldn't get a fire permit for the bed on a Sunday per Bixby's instructions, I figured I'd better not come home empty handed.

Woody said if I wanted to play tourist, I'd have to do it on my own time. So I'm on my way to post the pics of our "tour". Its quite pathetic so you can skip it if you want. I'll do better next time.

They'll be in the pics thread in a few minutes.

Rugby and Rugby League is not anything like soccer, more like Grid Iron but a forward pass is prohibited. The ball can only be carried forward by handing off parallel or backwards or kicked forwards. NO helmets, NO padding...

Now Aussie Rules.... difficult to describe and hard to watch on a TV screen, best watched live to see why and where everyone runs. If you have possession of the ball you have to bounce it every 6m or kick it. If you catch a kick (called a 'Mark') you get a brief time out to decide where you want to kick it again. If its only a hand off (forward or backward), your opponent has every right to tackle you and should the ball remain stationary, the ref blows his whilst and bounces the ball for the Centers to punch (cannot catch it).... its really complicated and after wtaching it for 10 years I still dont know or understand all the rules!

I've been fighting sleep for the last quarter hour in anticipation of your pix posting.... thanks for letting me/us 'late-birds' know it's ok to give up for the night. I'll check in the morning for your 'travelogue'.
Nite all! Sweet dreams!

Oz: that's ok....I still don't know or understand all the rules for our football either. And here's the kicker...no pun intended....the rules change from high school to college to NFL...and according to my son, refs argue about them on the field during the game. This causes great angst by the "men in the know" that I try to sit with during the games. I'm constantly asking...what's that?....what was that for?...15 yard penalty for WHAT??...what is offensive pass interference...how can they interfere with their own pass.....why don't they put MY son back in??? That kind of stuff...I am always astounded as to their patient explanations. I think they like being asked.

Man in Black: awwwwwwwwww...secret's now out about what a softy you are...no wonder the Lady in Blue loves you.

Good nite everyone....weatherman just said more light showers for the early morning hours...God's gift to the firemen.

Peppermint, even though I read every single post that comes into this forum, I seem to have missed the one that prompted your beautiful post. Can you refresh me? I have my own love story going on over here and as sappy as it my seem, I love to hear about our Eagle Duo since they're our own love bunnies. My W doesn't participate so our stuff isn't in the group but when Eagle Duo and Cumbrians have a love moment, I want to know about it. I'm just a romantic at heart.

PS I don't need or want all the details, just the eagle stuff. :D

I am so lost Peppermint. I looked at the time post and found mine which made perfect sense to me (but may need translation to normal people) What should I do now? I'm still lucid. But you better hurry. :D
