What a wonderful SC eagle sighting! I was out all afternoon--tomorrow I will be glued to the screen. Can't wait to watch your video, HB. I don't know how to do that. Ostrich--I was looking into the Montrose Settlement and ran across that banding photo in a good article written by Dr. Sharpe. A 23-page PDF. With my wonderful SnagIt program, I am able to capture these photos. Here's the link: http://www.darrp.noaa.gov/southwest/montro...mon-dg2003b.pdf |

Great Hulabird.....Thanks. It looked as though s/he just opened it's wings and let the wind carry him/her to the branch! Remember Cruz did this a couple of times too.......maybe watched her parents do it and just did the same. |

That's funny Elaine because I was going to tell Hulabird that she deserved an oscar for that video.. I am so challenged with everything that this seemed over the top in effort.. I do appreciate all the photos and videos that you all seem to do so easily. I have two bird sightings to report: The first, a young quail trapped in my garage.. came in through a side door. Used Sasha's butterfly net and held him for awhile.. Put him on his back, laying on my legs, and he actually was in a trance for awhile and I took pictures of him laying there.. he then put his head up and looked at me and I put him on the lawn and he "walked" away.. 2nd: Just saw a 'flock" of turkey vultures, overhead.. tried to count them as I have never seen so many at once.. got to 25 and gave up.. looked like 75 or 80 of them...My husband thinks they may have come from the fire area as we have never seen that many at one time. |

These are especially for Jann........but I am sure everyone will enjoy them too! ![]() The usual 'nightly' triangles..................................They give the E Branch a warm golden glow! ![]() Are they leaving?......................................................A red haze appears. ![]() And 'Hello'.................................................................They return............. ![]() They blend together..............................and finally fade away and 'daylight' returns once more at 5:52PM. |

WOW! I don't think I've ever seen a turkey vulture. Not sure I'd know one if I saw one either! That must have been an awesome sight! Did you get any pictures of them? p.s. you are gonna share the pictures of the quail, right?

Linda, hubby and I were shopping in town this afternoon and saw 4 turkey vultures over the old part of downtown CAM---which is 4 more than I've ever seen at one time. What was with today? The Red-tails were really noisy up here earlier in the day. Then saw 2 hawks or falcons swooping down on a field before seeing the turkey vultures....too small to be turkey vultures. There were LOTS of seagulls hanging around Trader Joe's. One little kid was holding a bag over his head. Wonder why? Hubby was acting a little crazy today, now that I think about it. I think it was the winds.Cumbrian--the nest shots look so beautiful today! |

Great Video HB and beautiful shots of the nest Cumbrian. Thanks  It never fails, as soon as I go out, all the excitement happens, but thanks to all of you, I never really miss a thing. My 2 grandaughters who live in Illinois will be visiting for a few days. One is 15 and the other 17. Alan (my hubby) and I better take some energy pills, or eat lots of spinach because we are sure going to be busy. The older girl is going to check out universities here as the family is planning to move back to Toronto next June. Looking forward to that move. Finally all our 4 kids will be here and 6 out of 8 grandchildren too. The 2 oldest boys are away at university but visit quite often. It will be nice to have all of them around at the same time for special family gatherings and holidays. I even have the little ones hooked on the eagle nest, but they still can't figure out why Cruz left her Mom and Dad. The nest really looks like it is in bad condition, but as someone posted, Home Depot, will help out there. Can't wait until nestoration. Thanks again for all the pics and videos. |
