I think instead of cash wouldn't the nest owners prefer?

Hey Bixby: I chuckle every time i see those ears flying!!

o2: I could be wrong - the "cash" of choice might just be that :D

So - good morning all - if you didn't see last night - Dr. Sharpe did answer the question about "mate for life" under what's your question

Off to train station - back in a little - hope I have internet at work today or I'll be looney by the end of the day

Jann - thank you so much for compiling the Cruzinary. It makes it so much easier to read and for the umpteenth time, I laughed hysterically. You are such an organized person and I truly appreciate this effort.

You're welcome. I was bored without the kids here all day and needed something to do.....and that was a lot more fun than housework! :D

Jann - what's Housework. When I can write my name on the diningroom table, that's the time to dust. I am by nature a neat-freak, but over the past few months I have realized that there are more important things to do. We spend all our weekends on our boat, weather permitting, and I have no choice, I must clean up from all the little visitors (spiders, flies, other interesting bugs). Last weekend was the official Marina closing party and our boat neighbour bought little trophies for all our friends. Mine said "The Cleanest Boat" and had a picture of a woman with a vacuum in her hand. We had a good laugh.

Jann, I got a big kick out of reading the cruzinary front to back all at one time. Makes waking up at 3AM enjoyable! Thanks for that.

I love Naturegal's philosophy on when its time to dust.

Harpo-LOL at your individualized calendar. If we keep on loving you real hard, would you consider coming back and living in the present with us?

ER- I love you and Jackie Lawson but that card was disturbing. :P

Edited to add- Sheesh Harpo, its me who is on the individualized calendar. I could have sworn today was the 4th. Guess I missed yesterday. Nevermind.

I have a friend like that. Keeps trying to tell me how dirty her house is, but her house is clean enough to eat off the floor. :o She has toned it down though. She only vacuums & dusts twice a day and mops the floors once a day now (unless there's a spill). :o Had to cut back when she took on watching 4 of her grandchildren daily....doesn't have time to vacuum and dust 6X a day or damp mop 4X a day any more. She's really a great person and we're friends in spite of her obsession.

Good morning, everyone. Since I know you are all bird lovers here, I thought I'd let you know that 18 precious whooping crane chicks began their ultralight-plane-led migration south today. They left the Necedah Wildlife Refuge in Wisconsin and flew 4 miles this morning. It is frightening for the birds to leave their familiar territory for the first time. My favourite crane (although I love them all) is feisty #622 who was hatched from an artificially inseminated egg from the Calgary Zoo. You can read all about the migration in the Operation Migration field journal (link is below pictures). Here are some pictures that I thought you'd enjoy. Jane Goodall came for a visit to the training site on Sept. 27. If you scroll down in the field journal you can read all about it.
The pictures are of the first wild-hatched chick in the ultralight flock. This chick will not follow the ultralights. It will follow its parents (who were ultralight chicks a few years ago) when they leave on their own. Once the birds learn the migration route they migrate independently. The chick in the pictures is a very special bird. The Operation Migration team considers themselves grandparents now, just like Dr. Sharpe is like a grandparent to Cruz.

cdn-cdn/Cheryl, Great to hear from you! :D We've missed you!

Thanks for the pics and link.....really fascinating. I had no idea. What's with the special suits? I've just skimmed the article and pictures, but saved the link so I can read it better when I don't have grandkids here. Thanks again!

Nice to be able to see the other nests today. Checking in on the West End nest, I caught a shadow of a raven on the perch above the nest's webcam.

Harpo: No fair starting the thread a day early nestime...I got all confused!

ED: GREAT shot of the shadow....kinda Halloweenish cool! And thanks for the Cruzinary list...I had missed some of them....and some made me laugh all over again. Who would ever have thought we could come up with some many words and expressions that start with Nest...?

ER: LOVE the Halloween card...poor kitty.

Ostrich: PERFECT cash! Love the bubbles.

cdn: WHERE have you been??? How's football season going for your son? Great hearing about the cranes and another success story. For a second I got them confused with the storks. I saw something on Animal Planet about the cranes and the ultralight hero....one by one, the world gets changed back to something good.

Ok...off to do more pruning before the trash man arrives.
