Operation Migration has a strict "no human contact" protocol because they want the whooping cranes to be wild birds. Hence the use of the crane costumes at all times. The ultralight plane pilots even wear them. The chicks imprint on the costumes and think that they are their parents. When in costume the trainers wear a hidden speaker that plays the brood call and other whooping crane calls. These sounds are even played when the chicks are still inside the eggs. Here are some more pictures to explain. I think it is alright to share them here since I am helping to raise awareness so to speak.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Peppermint, my son got a 37 yard field goal on Saturday. It was a special one because my father, his grandfather, passed away a week ago. My dad had asked Ian to kick a field goal for him. That's why I've been off the board. It's still hard to believe that my father is gone. |

Cdn-Cdn - my deepest condolences on the loss of your father. Ian sure came through for him with that field goal and I am sure he is looking down at all of you with one big happy smile. |

There is one other class of individual that will understand this perfectly, anyone who has lived with a geek (spouse, parent, sibling, offspring, roommate, visitor). The computer itself is my primary game. I’ll take it apart and reassemble occasionally even if I don’t have something to add or remove. I’ll purposely task the operating system until it crashes just so I can try to fix it. I love beta versions (Vista/Longhorn) because you know they will crash and you can fix, rebuild, restore, and or update it. I will still sit and watch my hard drive defrag occasionally. I reboot periodically just to clear the memory. Jann will throw things if I even look like I’m going to suggest she reboot. When we get invited to parties, I always put my tools in the car because we know the host has a broken computer. If I see a neighbor headed towards our house, I start collecting my tools automatically. The computer is the best thing that ever came along in my life. DON’T THROW THAT! I meant except for you. |

Hulabird: Oh that is toooooooooo funny!! My son is an avid avid avid video game player...Lou knows about that....in fact that's the career path he's chosen. I can't tell you how many times I've had to wait to go somewhere until he gets to a place to "save". Of course, he's had to wait for me when Cruz was on the nest doing something interesting. But that's ok....I used to play Nintendo until the wee hours of the morning back in my previous life. He's gonna love this video! |
