There is an eagle on the West End Nest. Can't see any wingbling. Also can't take screenshots from work. Sorry! I'll get that set up soon here. |

Thanks for the capture, Naturegal! Love seeing them there! Now if we could just get K10 & K26 to follow suit so we can see how well they look with the new camera! Just finished lunch, put Leyla down for a nap, and still working on the Halloween Village. The boys will probably be home from school before we finish and then I get to help them with their homework!

Been unable to check in for THREE days... absolutely going through withdrawals and then overdosing on a couple of hours of 'cHatching Up' and hugs and thank yous all around to everyone that made it possible for me to do so and see the camera change-out and etc., etc, and etc. My daughter and her husband arrived from Sta.Barbara Friday evening as I was arriving home from the office and she ran off to a High School Reunion event that didn't include spouses - most of the weekend was filled with reunion events and catching up with her and what her pals have been doing for the last 10 years and on Sunday we celebrated her B-Day (not actually until Wed, Oct.11) - lazed around a bit, drove into Seal Beach and checked out little shops on the old-fashioned Main St. and walked out to the end of the Pier where we 'dined' (burgers/fries/malts) at Ruby's before they took off for the journey back. Fun and a nice break from routine! Feel better, Skellis - hope you are up and around soon (and feel like posting pix)! Nancy - I'm sure Oreo will be a much happier kitty - still don't know what's up with mine - might be a 'behavior issue' rather than medical... Also, when you mentioned the gold-crowned sparrows on Oct 1, I posted later in the day (4ish) about the arrival of the white-crowned sparrows down in my 'neck of the woods' - I have been hearing their distinctive trilling all morning. I got my Black IWS hooded sweatshirt on Friday - good quality and the Eagle logo looks great against the black - I had 'pre-ordered' so the difference in price/cost could go towards A-49 Cruzers final tally- it's a Hanes for any of you wondering about sizing. It had its inaugural trek and I was happy to have it on Sunday afternoon/evening where the chill blew in with the wind at the end of the pier! Ojailala - I saw your encouraging note on the bio page and I will try to get to that in the next day or so...I'll have to try to remember what and where I've posted 'tid-bits' so as not to be repeating Happy Thanksgiving and blessings to all of our Canadian friends! |

Nancy - Oreo will do just fine, I have had many cats that had this procedure and it is amazing how fast they heal. To all our Canadian friends -- gobble, gobble...

Hi everyone. Just returned from the boat with about 15 loads of laundry (yuck) and am trying to catch up on all the news. Nancy - glad that Oreo is doing well, she'll feel so much better when the drain is removed. HB - thanks for the video of Dr. Sharpe. Great photos from the rest of you of the new camera angle, west end nest, etc, thanks. Even though this is probably the last weekend on the boat, with tons of work, we had a great time. Went out on the lake to see the change in colours of all the beautiful trees that line the shore and it was breathtaking. It was pretty cold, and wouldn't you know it, the heat in the main cabin stopped working. The temperature went down to 50 and it was cold, but our bedroom was a comfortable 72. The marina loaned us a heater which really helped. Now I have to wait for the bill to repair the heating system. No different than car repairs. At night our boat neighbours have a portable fire place and we made a bonfire - it was great. Anyway, must catch up on what I haven't read yet. Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian friends. |

Thanks for the screenshot Naturegal! I'm a little shaken up right now, just witnessed a bad car accident right in front of me. Called 911, and actually had to "wait on the line as no one was available to take my call". Call was answered about 1 minute later and then police, ambulance, talking to the involved parties, making report etc.... Finally back in office with my now cold lunch which I had gone out for. Whew. Just happy nobody was seriously hurt. |

Bea.....glad you were able to help with that accident.....maybe you need to take some hot coffee/tea/chocolate to settle your own nerves after witnessing it. Naturegal, great capture at the WE nest...welcome back glad you enjoyed the boat, pity about the heater though. skellis, sorry you are under the weather after your cruise, but looking forward to hearing all about it when you are fit. Thanks Hulabird/Debi for pointing out the 'Angel'. When I looked at it I thought it looked more like St. Francis too. Is anyone-else having problems with the SC Cam? I tried to get it up again and it just won't come on. Is Dr. Sharpe still working on it? |

It's working for me, but I had to update my WMP link. Try bringing it up from the IWS page and then resave the link. |

Thank's Cumbrian and I had to laugh out loud at your comment. The moment I came back into the office, I stuck a big great piece of chocolate cake into my mouth  I actually feel better now. I was just really worried about the elderly gentlemen in the car in front of me (he was at fault in the accident). When I first got to him he was not moving, only moaning with eyes closed. Got him to respond to me and then called 911. By the time I left, they were putting him in the ambulance, but he was awake and talking to people. Feel sorry for the young kid in the other car. He's okay, but very young and pretty shaken up too. |

Bea--I would be very shaken by that accident. Glad the elder appeared to ok. I hope. Bea, again. When I went out to retrieve the trash bin around 11:30 today, I looked up and saw a HUGE raptor...I mean HUGE. I think there was a Red-tail flying above it, and the Red-tail looked like a pip squeak squirt in comparison. My heater guy is a friend and happened to be working on our heater today. When I told him about the really large bird, saying I assumed it was a turkey vulure, he said maybe it was a Californina condor. He lives in Santa Paula--and he did say he saw flames over the top of the hill during the Day fire a few weeks ago. He believes at that point, it was a controlled fire. He thinks a lot of their local birds have scattered--and not to rule out the condor. Not one peep out of that big bird. I got my binocs, but the underside appeared solid dark to me. No light feathers at all. It was overcast, and at that point the bird was positioned maybe two neighbors away at most. The only other time I've seen a bird this large was one time when we lived in Piru and I saw it flying out toward Castaic. The bird I saw was gliding smoothly and level, no rocking, but at one point I did see the wings do a little "V" shape. Head appeared dark. http://www.fws.gov/hoppermountain/cacondor/condors&TVs.html Skellis I'm sorry that you're under the weather. Snug's mom was ill the entire duration of her Alaskan cruise last year. It took her quite a while to get back to normal. Her husband required medical care unrelated to the cruise, so he was not quite up to snuff either. She said he received very good care on the ship, which is the good news. Wonder if cruise ships are equivalent to adult day care centers--germwise? I've not been on the cams today, but my SC nest is fine each time I've returned to the computer. Nice to catch up on all the posts; Joanie, Naturegal, and Cumbrian. I had hoped to clean up my letter to the Wounded Warrior Project and get it in the snail mail. Actually, there may be no mail today--so that's good. I sent a sloppy version by email, but will paper mail two improved copies. Sun finally coming out strong here. Edit: They better use this nest again after all the trouble of moving the camera. -------------------- Peter Sharpe Institute for Wildlife Studies Bald Eagle Restoration Program That's funny. |

Patti, it wouldn't surprise me if it was a condor. Very possible that they are scattered everywhere right now. I've noticed a lot of larger birds in our area lately. While driving to Oxnard yesterday (Backway thru agri fields) I think hubby and I saw a falcon diving for a field mouse. At least it looked like a falcon to me. Do we have falcons around here? Anyone? It was light in color and almost appeared to have stripes in the coloring. Was driving, and by the time I stopped, it was already taking off with something in his talons. BTW, Patti, you wanted me to let you know when I post that Nightsky drawing again. I did in the "Hand Art......" thread. |

Thanks ostrich2 and Patti for confirmation that the camera was working. Couldn't get it to come up from the IWS site either so Roy decided to reset the modem and empty the cache etc and now everything is working well. Still no sightings of mom/dad at the nest though!
