Good morning everyone! I missed yesterday, was very busy and so was this forum! A lot to catch up on PARTICULARLY the new camera, thank you Peter! The potential capability is eagerly waiting ! I dub it the New Cruz View

Now to catch up:
Bird thank you so much for shaing David and Skidboot, what a great story. The dog reminds me of the blue heelers in Oz, bred for rounding up the sheep. Our Felix is blind in one eye and very deaf but he still has his barking moments....

Pottyshed- Very touching profile, my heart goes out to you and your husband. Please check in with this forum often, you have many friends here.

Nancy Do pray that Oreo is better, particularly with the collar and drain off!

Canadian Thanksgiving One of my best friends here in Oz was from Canada and did put on a Turkey dinner for her family every year (she passed away 2 years after a valient 14 year fight against breast cancer), but I didnt know the whole History, thanks for sharing that Naturegal.

Skellis Hope you are feeling better just like Oreo!

Ojai 1865 brid species in Columbia?? Wow, a good reason to go visit there if it wasnt so darn dangerous. The Finch is beautiful, but I wonder how the managed to keep it still long enough on a human hand for a pic????

ER Thanks for the Puppy Goodnight

Hey 12 more days to Cruzneyland! Wish I was going....

BTW I posted some videos under Australian Brids in my back yard under Video thread.

MY TUESDAY GOOD NIGHT to everyone! (your morning) KLJinOz

kljinOz. The little birdie on the finger, it must have had it's wings clipped, but they said they released it back to the rain forest. I would love to go treck through a rain forest. What did they call the forest , a cloud forest? I have some colorful love birds that are the same size. They would sit on my finger like the little birdie when they were young, or when I recieved them, they had there wings clipped. I have a flight for them now. The love birds beaks are more like a parrots tho. Did you see how cute Cruz was when she was all beak. Her baby pictures. I L-O-V-E the link to the Condors. What a stuggle to save them. They live too close to humans. Some have been lost to car gas, they drink the leaked car gas from people camping. We have a beautiful bronze statue of them here in Ojai, sitting on a branch, streaching out their wings. I know I would love to hear they are doing better, that lots of young are flying free like Cruz and all the chicks. I think they are doing better now. Can't wait till everyone is awake. This is such an interesting and educational foram.

Harpo, I love the pictures of the estate where your brother works. Wow, does anybody live in the big house? The alpacas are cute. Are they aggressive at all? I'd love to have a job working with animals like those Smithsonian people. Did they have any bald eagles there? Probably not now that I think of it or you would have told us. Thanks for the pictures.

Ozzie, I loved the videos of the baby wattles and the parents protecting their babies from that rascally kookoburra. Keep em' coming.

Hope Skellis is feeling better and we get to see her pictures soon.

My brother was head of facilities for a Naples hospital for many years (FL that is) and "retired" to Virginia only to find this job - he's the fix-it-up guy now (no duties or worries) and lives on the estate (and works only on the estate side) The gentleman who owns this only comes here one weekend a month as a get away from the world! The horses were a hobby - he doesn't really bother with them now - his grandson does - The owner is all about golf - he built a 9 hole golf course on the property which he just added 3 holes to this year! and he and his wife are on the course from sun up to sun set when they are on the estate! It's across the road from the Mellon estate!! (Carnegie-Mellon) There's a private air strip right there for Mrs. Mellon (who is in her 90's) so that family can come visit/doctor/etc. A jet was there Saturday! (not mine of course)

They raise the alpacas for sale - for show - and for the wool! They are super curious animals!! They kind of whistle when they communicate! The worst thing they do is SPIT! And it's not saliva - it's from the stomach - ugh!!!!! Not on me - I keep my distance!

No - no eagles - that was the first think I checked for. But I guess if the zoo has any ?? and they need medical rehab etc, that's where they are sent! It's quite a facility and only open to the public 1 weekend a year! I think they are mostly a research facility - gotta find that brochure again!!! Here's the link for general info:

Good morning! SC nest is still sleeping, though it should be up soon. Caught the tail end of an eagle's visit to the West End nest. Here's hoping we'll have lots of visits on both nests today!

Wanted to get this posted. Now I can go back and read everything. :D

Good morning everyone and welcome back Harpo. Checked out your pictures and loved them! Thank you so much. Boy what a dream place that estate is. BTW, about the Alpacas, I believe they use the dung as organic fertilizer here. We have an Alpaca Farm here in Ventura County. Cute things, but yes, keep your distance  !

I just can't get back into the mindset of working - of course I'm out of here Fri to go to Ohio until next Tues so... that's not helping!!!!! argh

OjaiHikers: ummmm...I'm thinking the condors drank leaking antifreeze/coolant from campers rather than gas. If people have gas leaking from their cars.....wouldn't there be explosions??? Leaking coolant is very toxic to pets and wildlife. I'm spending the extra bucks and using the kind that is nontoxic and environmentally safer.

What's the update on the condor that was about to fledge when the fire hit? I haven't seen nor heard any news reports. Anyone know?

Coolant.. I think that was it. Just awful. This was a few years back. I think before they scooped up the last few condors, and put them in a protected environment. I remember some people thought the biologist shouldn't interfere, and leave them in the wild. This was way back late 80's or early 90's. Before I was a birder, just a hiker. I have read in the paper that the wild life was generally spared in the Day Fire. I also read that the fire could possible benifit the Condors. They are scavengers and will eat the burnt wild life and that they like stagley bare trees. I haven't heard any bad news regarding the Condors. Lets hope.

I read the Baby Condor did fledge, successfully and the biologist didn't need to assist.

Hello--been at mom's and need to get back to her house to put my Wounded Warrior Projec letters in her outgoing mail since I missed my mailman.

Haven't read posts, but caught the antifreeze question. I remember a lot of talk about antifreeze, especially when I lived in Piru--and the probelms were already starting with the condors.
