Hi all, greetings from Big Bear! We made it safely and more or less in one piece. We had a scare though: We finished packing on Friday night about 10pm. Besides the 16 foot moving van we had two pick up trucks loaded up too. We bedded down on the floor of our empty house about midnight. Soon after I heard a car alarm go off. I rushed to the front window and saw someone standing out by the bed of one of the pick ups checking out what we had packed. I sounded the alarm and my hubby, his brother, and our nephew (who are both cops) ran out and scared the guy away. Needless to say, I was on guard the rest of the night. But here we are in beautiful, cold Big Bear. Night time temps are down in the low 30's. BRRRRRRR. Pretty cold for this So Cal Coastal girl. Bixby Beagle is having fun chasing the squirrels that hang around the back deck waiting for peanuts. I'll be unpacking for the rest of my life, but enough is out of the boxes that things are getting back to normal. And my phones, TV, internet, e-mail, and washer/dryer are hooked up and running, so I'm good to go. Happy B-day to Woody and Laurie and many, many more. I'm so glad Oreo is healing well. Thanks to Dr. Sharpe for all the hard work on the nest cam. It sounds like we will have all sorts on new angles to see and hear this coming year. As always, thanks for all the pix and comments. I feel like I'm all caught up now. |

Happy birthday Woody and Laurie. It's a good day for a birthday! The most amazing thing about the Hummingbird cam is that when you double click on the live feed it goes to full screen. In that mode the hummingbirds are life size. They look alive and present in my living room! http://www.tugboatenterprises.com/Multimed...ideo/WebCam.asp |

Hi Bea: I think he was looking to grab anything he could out of the back. But he could have stollen the truck too, along with all the goods. My nephew the cop said it was a meth head's dream. Bixby beagle did OK on the trip. I had to sedate him, so he slept the whole way. He's adjusting pretty well. He's sleeping in a patch of sunshine on the floor behind me right now. Question for anyone: where do I go to change my e-mail address? |

Just a quick check-in....HAPPY BIRTHDAY, WOODY!!!! I thought maybe you two weren't married and DH meant Designated Husband. So glad to hear the condor chick fledged to safety!! Coolant...it's sweet and really toxic...I've had two friends that lost pets from lapping up dribbles from cars. Get the nontoxic kind for the sake of all our feathered and furry friends. Can't WAIT for sound at the nest!!! Ok...I hear my bank account crying for its deposit so off I go.............. OH! HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAURIE!!! |

HaHaHa, love all the DH interpretations!! Why can we only think of a few "nice" D's and soo many "bad" D's? Like Deranged, Darn, Dizzy, Dopey. I like Designated, it's sort of neutral. |

bea: that's good! I'm trying to watch the nest but just heard a small plane/helicopter crashed into a building in the city - around 72nd street no real info yet ........ edit: they think it was a very small passenger plane I don't know why they let anything fly anywhere over manhattan! with all those tall buildings and the numbers of people - it should be no fly except for medical helicopters/police! never can figure it out.... |

I agree about the planes Harpo! Large or big, they should not be able to fly there or any town with skyscrapers, especially after what happened 9/11. Edit: CNN is reporting on it now. It was a 50 story residential building. |

Did our camera angle change a little? I can't find St. Francis. Or is it the lighting right now? Anyone see him? Edit: To answer my own question, I think it's just the lighting right now. Compared the view with Hula's picture on Monday's thread. |
