I hope those duck hunters aren't using lead ammo!

I'm off to see Gladys Knight...will catch up tomorrow....have a good evening everyone!

Patti, the Fish & Game guy told me that 7-8 years ago they outlawed lead bullets for duck hunting. Cannot use it.

Lala, A-61 is dead and Dr Sharpe's crew had to be the ones to find him. If you recall, he was the baby from the grasslands nest who had a broken leg. My heart is broken and I know the crew's must be too

Debi,

A-61 was the eaglet from the West End nest, not the grassland.
(This is the one with 2 mothers and 1 father who share the nesting duties)

ojailala, check out Dr.Sharpe's weekly update thread.

[We had been holding out hope for A-61, which had flown over to Anacapa and then we lost its GPS signal. Well, we were able to finally get to Anacapa today (about a 1 1/2 hour trip in an 18' Zodiac) and unfortunately found A-61's carcass in the bottom of a ravine. There is no way to tell what happened. The red-tailed hawks and peregrine falcons seem especially aggressive out there, so there could have been a confrontation with one of them, or with one of the other eagles that was out there at the time. Very sad, but at least now we know.]

Here. ironically, are some captures from the WE nest.......Not the best quality as the camera was really acting up.

Cumbrians, I don't care about what the camera is doing, just give us eagles.

A-61 was the only one I watched until the day he was banded.
On that day it was discovered his leg was broken and he was removed from the nest and taken to sick bay.
After that, I was directed by Dr Sharpe to the Santa Cruz nest to watch Cruz.
I'm saddened by this, as well!

The sad news about A61 is a blow to us all. It brings home how vunerable our eagles, and all wildlife, are. The solidarity of this forum is a bright light in the ongoing battle for nature and conservation.

It's been a long day of unpacking so I'm going to sign off early.

Good night dear forum friends, have a pleasant evening.

OMG, I guess I came in too late on this forum to know all this. How horribly heartbreaking. I've become quite attached to the West End nest family recently and I am at a loss for words. I'm glad I didn't read this while the kids were still here. It would be too hard to explain to them why I'm crying. Lighting a candle for him now.

Good Evening everyone.

Oh how sad about A-61. One will never know what happened. These fledglings have so much to encounter once they take off from the nest. Nature is still a wonderful thing and we have to be happy that so far no more have met up with anymore dangers. Let's keep our talons crossed for the rest.
