Early on, we learned from Dr. Sharpe the mortality rate of the eaglets born on the Channel Islands. It was initially 50%, but he happily revised that at a later date. I was never a West-End watcher, only a Cruz watcher (Ventura Off of Ed sponsorship of the webcam), but I empathize with all of you who held this little eaglet in your hearts.

I just got off the phone with Hulabird. She's getting her inner peace ready, I'm getting my inner peace ready, and Bea already has hers ready. Let's raise a glass in honor of 61 in 5 minutes. Everyone get your glass ready and meet in the candlelight vigil thread in 5.

Like Karen, I too have only been watching Cruz, but I have been eagerly devouring any news or information about any of the eagles/eaglets. And I do remember when there was talk about 61 having a broken leg and was so very happy when he succesfully fledged. This truly is a sad day. But as other's have mentioned, nature can be very cruel sometimes. Denny, so sorry!

Wait a minute! I said we should meet in the candlelight thread, but we're all over here. Do you think that's okay? Or should we get over in the candlelight thread?

I'm not a drinker but I am with you all in honoring A61 in life and in death. These little eagles are so very dear. I share in the pain of our loss and I hold A61 and all of us in my heart.

I fell asleep at 9:30 and forgot to log out...and read the sad news about A-61 this morning. I share in your feelings and all that has already been said. Even with little budgies I've had...I've seen them go after the smallest and peck the living daylights out of them. Time to separate them forever when they do this. I think birds are aggressive. It wouldn't surprise me if a Red-tail or other bird went after A-61. This is awful to say, but I'm glad it wasn't a drowning.

I was always afraid, too, of them drowning. I didn't want to think that another bird might get one of the eaglets.
