Emma Rose, so nice to have you back. And welcome back Teri/Troth also! I'm still trying to catch up on the posts, but just wanted to let you all know that A-53 is not Stephen Colberts Eagle. A-46 is the eagle he adopted. Back to catchin up! Edit: Sorry, I just noticed that Bird already posted about A-53 |

Fresno was where they took my demolished car when it was totalled in a 4 car pileup on Highway 99 outside of Visalia. I have very fond memories of Fresno. (Read that last sentence with a lot of sarcasm. However, the CHP up there was very terrific.) I hate that that's where 53 died. Not that there's a good place . . . . I know I am being over protective, but I am glad for right now that 62 stayed on Santa Cruz. |

I just caught up with the posts. I can't wait until the camera gets fixed on the West End nest. Seems to be a lot of activity there. |

Good evening. I just returned from my bday dinner (thanks for the greeting Cumbrian!) - was hoping to have a bday present in the form of an email from Darrell Oh, well, not tonight! So sad to hear about A-53. I was so impressed when I heard the distances she had covered. I wonder if they will perform a necropsy on the bird to find out the cause of death. Sounds like you've had quite a rough time over the last 24+ hrs Hula. Glad you were able to vent on this site. Well, I'm off to bed. Sweet dreams to everyone. Catzsong |

I'm so tired from today's work, I can't think straight, but wanted to tell you that Dr. Tim Vail called me today. This is the Twilight Zone part....we actually got our Verizon pc fiber optics installed today---they could not complete it last month when they came out. I forgot the technician (today) unplugged one of the phones near the pc, so when it rang, I picked it up...."Helloing, helloooo, helloooo" and of course there was nobody there. It was Dr. Vail and he left a voice mail. Very nice message and left his number for me to call him back. Since I was already more than half-way mentally "gone" for the day, it's a blessing I picked up a dead phone. I'm at the idiot stage from all the bird cage moving/exhaustion. It's the fibromyalgia, and will pass. I bungle when I get this way; not good to speak with anybody. Dr. Vail left a message saying that for the past several years, the use of steel bullets has been on a volunteer basis during the culling. He said that this is the case for this year, but that next year it is going to be mandatory that steel bullets are used. I am VERY happy with this news. He said he likes eagles too. If the hunters who do use lead ammunition properly dispose of their lead-tainted kill areas, the eagles will be safe. Dr. Vail did not go into that, but I would think the NPS would ask them to do this. I'm into the pretty heavy duty fibromyalgia brain drain today--and it is a BLESSING I picked up the dead phone. Sorry for any typos, I'm wiped out. But I was VERY happy to receive that telephone call. Night all. |

We will certainly ask about A-49's whereabouts frequently. We would not want to put IWS in a position of ignoring us or worse, lying to us. |

Hi All: I am broken-hearted over A-53, she was like a comet, she flew high, brightened up the sky and burned out after a gloriously short life. May she now be happy soaring over the rainbow bridge. HB - you go girl, you can complain to us any time. It will all seem better after a few days, but we are all so happy that you, Woody, the animals, and the rest of Hawaii are OK. Just remember it takes a few days to get over the rolling floors, and if I could, I would send you some Ambian. Try some tylenol PM, it'a not too bad, and I sleep like a baby. Patti: congratulations on your lead bullet project. It takes a village to raise a child, and one determined person to change the Child's (or adult's) behavior. We appreciate you more than you will know. ElaineRuth - is a corneal transplant an option? I have to say goodnite, as I have an early morning. Sylvia |

Hi Patti, I would like to nominate you as the Nestavist or Cruzsavist, or just regular ole activist although that would make for a boring cruzinary entry. Wondering if you think we should talk to Stephen Colbert about everything that's going on with the hunting ground/and the recent mortalities of some baby eagles. He has yank and is obviously involved with the eagles (at least his son). Maybe someone could convince him to talk to the hunters or other powers that be. Even if he did a skit on his show in a comedy-serious way, he could get to many people. |

Oh man~ I just saw a chicken shop yesterday with 'chook' enchaladas for sale. I wasnt game to buy them bc Ozzie mex sauce is too sweet to my liking.... I found a wholesaler and mfg of mexican products not too far from where I live (the husband owner is from Mexico). They mfg fresh corn and flower tortillas and import La Victoria sauces. I try to make my own. Plus, every yearly visit to the US I load up on cans of salsa (the airline people think I'm nuts and I hold up everyone whilst they search every can, too bloody bad). Another expat Yank told me of a new Mex restaurant south side of the City but I dont got that way often so have not confirmed that it is anygood. Nesactivist is good HB.... Patti deserves LOUD accolades for doing what she has done, my slouch hat is off to her. |

Cumbrian & Joanie, thanks for asking about my cat Morrisa. I still have no news on her whereabouts. The animal control isn't open until Wednesday so I'm waiting and hoping she will be there. But I'm afraid someone has taken her because she is so lovable and so friendly. |

I'll hold you and Morissa in my thoughts. I lived in Belmont Shore (an area in Long Beach that Margie would be familiar with) in the 70s and was frantic for a few days looking for my missing cat who had walked into the neighbor's little laundry 'shed' attached to the side of the house and gotten closed in until laundry needed doing again - scared the pahookie out of the neighbor when this frantic and hungry cat bolted past her but we were able to piece the circumstances together. |

Margie, I do so hope you'll find your cat Morrisa. I know how it feels, boss's dog got away once, thankfully he was waiting for us at the animal shelter the next day. Keeping my talons crossed for you! |

Patti, we are so proud of you! We all new that the letters you sent would get a response. And what a response! Great to hear that steel bullets are in the works for next year. Better a little late than never? Hmm, well.... I wish they would start it now, but won't complain. You made an excellent Nestavist/Cruzsavist/ole activist. Do I see a poll? Oh man, Darrell is gonna hate me for even suggesting that right now  |
