Troth:

did you know there was a Scottish Festival in Ventura this past weekend - I just found out about it on Monday - a day late and a dollar short as usual. Perhaps it is an annual event, and you can get a a pseudotrip to Scotland next year without the long flight.

I think this was the 3rd or 4th Scottish Highland games at the Ventura Fairgrounds (Seaside Park). I've never been, but I happen to have a little refrigerator magnet from a couple years ago and it says the event is the 2nd weekend in October and it's sponsored by the Saint Andrews Society of the Central Coast.

.....
Speaking of continued fundraising, I'll pledge a $25 donation to IWS if Patti (our resident nestavist) will send a letter to Stephen Colbert and get ANY response from him at all. Then there will be a $100 bonus if he mentions the plight on his show in any way, shape or form. Anybody else want to add to that?

Great idea! I'll pledge $25 for Patti to write the letter, and another $25 when we see or hear mention of the issue on the show.

Patti, just getting back to you....... The WE Cam is having a lot of problems at present and I, speaking personally, don't think that it is altogether solar related.
The pictures seem to come in flashes and boy, do you have to be quick on the trigger, at those times. It may be coincidence, but I have also noticed that once the Eagles have left, the Cam seems to behave more.......At least not so quickly and in colour too. Could their movement on the nest be upsetting the Cam?

The problem is actually solar related and I doubt it is at the camera site. There are three pairs of video transmitters required to get the signal back to a computer in Two Harbors. At least one of the sites has low batteries and the sun can no longer recharge them (lots of clouds and less daily sunlight). I may be able to get out and at least check the batteries tomorrow. With the low power levels, the movement in the nest does seem to cause the video transmitters to act up. The camera itself is either on or off and does not have the capability to produce the distorted images.

Harpo: Congratulations on the 14th anniversary!!!! And I'm crossing everything I can for your mom!
Cumbrians, yes, thank you for all you guys have done for us. Not only do you keep the screenshots and videos coming for us all, but also for being such excellent tech teachers!
Denny, welcome back! We missed you! Good to hear you had a great time with the family.
ElaineRuth, I just loved The Birth Order of Children. I don't have any, but have seen this exact thing happen left and right in my family :D
To everyone else, thank you all for being such a great group! I enjoy every moment with you all.

Even though I learned my lesson after one, I could see that stuff coming down the pike. Thanks for reminding me Elaine why I lay eggs rather than give birth. I just know I was a bird in my previous life.

That sounds like good news in that I assume that a fault in the camera itself couldn't be fixed without causing unacceptable disturbance to the eagles?

Just saw a great horned owl in our euculyptus trees... we hear them around 4 or 5 in the morning but this one was very loud and active. The tree overlooks a large field, filled with bunnies and mice... Hope he gets a dinner tonight.

Dr Sharpe, I would never put you out like that but since eagle duo (especially MIB) burned out the camera with all their screen shots, I think you should send them the bill. Just sayin'

Scout caught his first mouse yesterday.. He was only outside a short time when he brought his "kill" to the door.... today he caught a lizzard with a bright blue tail....actually, he only caught the tail which the lizzard released. He is not a kitten anymore.. going to be a very big orange cat!!!!
