Regarding males at the nests first...I'm wondering something. Dr. Sharpe posted somewhere that the males will often start building a nest to attract a mate...I'm wondering if this is true come RE-nesting time. Even though K-10 already has a mate, will he initiate the nestorations to get the attention of K-26 and sort of get her to thinking about getting in the "mood"? Is this part of the annual courtship? |

I am guessing that you are right on with this. It would make sense that he is still trying to attract her for the next season and of course part of that would be doing most of the work getting the nest ready. I hope he does an excellent job and can lure her back for another wonderful new arrival. He is rather handsome also so I think he should have no problem. |

Will certainly try and get pictures of the great white and share them with you. the aquarium is really wonderful and wll worth the trip. Of course that whole Monterey Bay area is, in my opinion, one of the loveliest places in the world. certainly a few days there seems to help me "get my mind right." |

Cdn-cdn/Cheryl.......that Hamster dance is just great! Certainly gets the feet tapping......just a pity that we have a full squad of tree guys outside right now or I would be in full swing  Don't want to stop the work............Had to do a Goodsearch to find out who/what Conde-Nast was ......Mind, we already knew that we live on a very beautiful Island, so that is good to hear that others think so too. Neat story Troth/Teri...... Thanks Ojai Hikers for your quotes....... Jann, I guess the Ravens are the 'clean-up crew'....... Wonder what news we will get, in our Wednesday update..... Yes, I guess Mom/K-26, is still in vacation mode.....we haven't seen her at the nest for a while. peppermint you may be right that it is the male that starts the renovations and then she will come along and offer her opinion afterwards. They are still a young couple, unlike the Maine Adults who, I think, have been together a while, so maybe they don't know, that working together as a team, gets the job done faster! Is anything happening yet on the Saanich nest?.......Ostrich2? I haven't checked out the Hancock site so am completely in the dark here. Strange, because this is the nearest nest to us!!!! |

Something just hit me. I've mentioned I've a pair of Umbrella cockatoos. It's the male, Karma, who is obsessed with banging around his nest box. (They mate all the time, but thank God, no more eggs. They mate YEAR ROUND, but more so right now.) Karma bangs & bangs away by himself in that box and rattles it like a crazy man. CoCo sits on her aviary perch looking dazed and her branch sways from the banging. And it is LOUD---and he will do it in the middle of the night when the mood strikes him. Two of his offspring are night CLANKERS with toys, food bowls, or heavy cage doors. It woke me up last night. My husband says it's genetic clanking. |

A thought: can you imagine the look on Mr. Jay's face when he does one of his "let's visit the nest" and mom/dad are there! Whoooooaaaaa........ I guess it would be more of a "fly by" than a "landing"!!!

The Saanich parents haven't been back to the nest yet that I've heard, but the new cameras have been placed in the nest and will hopefully be able to provide several views of the activity when they return. A couple of the locals have seen eagles in the general area just recently, but there was no indication it's those adults I don't think. The normal pattern for these birds should be to go well north to the salmon runs, unlike K10 and K26 who are always on Santa Cruz, so I don't think it's expected to see them so soon. |

Thanks ostrich for the quick reply. I guess then, that they won't be back, until January or February next year maybe........... Look at the light on the nest at present folks...really bright. Maybe this is the new 'Triangles'. ![]() |

Patti, does Karma never injure himself with all his 'banging' around his box? I thought caged birds slept at night. I know when we put Misty, the budgie's cover over him at night and the lights are off, he never makes a sound. Mind he is a 'loner' anyway.......no mates in his cage.....he is a happy soul though. Especially when his Mom, my aunt, plays Scottish Country Dance Music for him! |

Not an eagle....barely even as big as an eagle's head, but here's a tiny visitor to the nest.....on the little branch to the far right.

The eagle on the WE nest is still there, but the image is too fuzzy to tell who it is. |
