Oh Deb, doesn't that sound like a trip of a lifetime! Unfortunately, I have this silly fear of flying thing, and uh, well, I also have three little ones to boot! All I can say is thank goodness for the internet or I'd really be left in the dark! By the way, with all of your scouting excursions, have you ever spotted an eagle? I keep looking on different websites and many eagles have been spotted along the northeastern corridors of PA. and the southern part of NY. I had such a hard time opening different threads last night...like the system was bogged down or something...brought back memories of the beginning parts of the Hornby Eagles site! So, I'm off to read all about the magnificent Sunday AND check out all of the photos!! Nancy |

What do you think of K-10 and K-26 meeting you at the dock? Intuition? They say dogs can sense an earth quake before it hits, elephants new the tsunami was happing and walked up hill. Do you think the eagles new that boat full of people were for them? They are very healthy birds. It's possible. |

MaMi... No actually, have not seen one and I know they are along the Hudson River and we do camp along there in a couple spots however, I don't know where along the Hudson they are - we may be toooo far south. I'm thinking a great way to help one get on a plane if you have any kind of reservatins is by experiencing some "inner peace"! |

It seems that I definitely have to look more closely at the different topics as I didnt pay enough attention to the planned trip. I am so disappointed that I could be so dumb as I would have been thrilled to have gone with all of you especially our eagles putting in an appearance. I am so happy that all of you had such a wonderful time and to be generous enough to show us pictures with some of you actually explaining in detail what you saw and did during the hours that you were on the island. Wonderful to match faces with names. What a nice looking group. Count me in if we go out there again. Jeanette

The cam picture looks "alive" this morning - anyone else getting a weird picture! Looks like interference or something! I know Dr. Sharpe said he would go out and take a look at it today (I think I recall) but it's too early in the day out westie! Maybe it's the new battery hookup he mentioned! |

Good Morning everyone. 8:26AM......please someone confirm that they did see that helicopter flash past the screen again at 8:24AM....................Now when we get sound we will hear them a-coming!!!! Great photos everyone. Glad you liked the one that Roy 'Doctored'.........we will work on getting peppermint and Lou in there too.............Bea I looked for you......are you in there.......do you want to be???????? Because of all his hard work I am taking him out to Tim Hortons for their new Breakfast muffin with sausage and egg........a bit like MacDonalds I guess.......so we will be offline for a short while.....but I think he deserves it don't you?! I will stick to the old fashioned type of muffin...probably a blueberry one. No action at any of the nests at the moment.........probably the helicopter going around is keeping them away from ours........ I am also working on something-else, hint we are the nestorians, but will tell you about this later............ |

Just being in the harbor was wonderful, then Dr. Sharpe.. then the spotting scope set on Dad in the tree.. we didn't know which way to turn.. grabbing cameras, grabbing binnoculars, grabbing Dr. Sharpe...and this was just the beginning... This could probably never happen again in a million years.. the stars and moon just aligned on my birthday for one glorious moment.. |

Cumbrian, sorry, Pat....was playing with Leyla and not at the computer so I didn't see a helicopter. Lala, glad you enjoyed the birthday surprise we all cooked up for your birthday! We don't do that for just anyone! Anyone else notice the difference in the West End nest and the Two Harbors nest output this morning? Looks like it's gonna make it a lot more challenging to get screen shots to share with ya'll. |

After catching up on the posts, I have some additional information on accomodations on the island. There is the old ranch house five miles inland from Prisoners Harbor which is used to house the various groups from IWS, Nature Conservatancy ond other official visitors (it will hold up to 30). It has its own well and Dr. Sharpe mentioned that there were about ten people in residence on the day we were there. It has a kitchen (they made enough food for the 100 anticipated beach cleanup people) and Dr. Sharpe was mentioning that he usually didn't have to cook because he got leftovers from the others. He likes sweets, and took a "Gloopy Bar" (a brownie with marshmallows, caramel and chocolate on top) for dessert (that's how I know he has a sweet tooth). They get to the ranch by truck or car (brought over on a landing craft). There is another facility which will also hold 30, and the navy facility which will hold 12, but usually only has two on duty. Dr. Sharpe said he would leave today on the late boat, stay over in Ventura, since he can't get to Catalina then anyway and go to catalina tomorrow. Dr. Sharpe also has a great set of ears. I had a minature bald eagle toy which squeeks (like the one in the video but smaller) on my backpack. Someone asked me to squeek it so I complied (but its not very loud), and Peter was about 5 people away, and perked up and asked who had the eagle toy. He later said the sound was a slightly pissed off eagle noise. Got to go to work. Great picture Cumbrians. Skellis |

Good morning. I stayed up until 1 a.m. last night reading posts and looking at all pix of the island trip. It was so neat. It made me feel like I was there. I think the easier hiking trail is pretty much like going up and down my hill--so I'm going to practice on that when the weather turns cold. I used to be able to go and down like a jackrabbit while carrying piles of ripped out mini-iceplant. I'm going to have to work hard to get back into the shape I was in a few short years ago. Ugh! You lose weight and don't huff and puff (as much... ). Now I'm motivated. I'll ask here and in the other post. Was that my imagination, or did I see Eucalyptus (sp?) trees in one of the island photos? I know they don't belong here, yet are all over the mainland. I didn't expect to see them on the island. Yes, I've also seen weird stuff on the SC moniter and feared it was my computer--cause I just downloaded something for the WE nest, thought I messed something up. Whew! |

Cumbrians: I also don't see Cockney in the group photo...would be nice to add her too, since she was there. Skellis: As I recall, Colleen, our Nature Conservancy guide, said the IWS crew stays up at/or near the Navy facility and there are usually about 12 people up there at any given time. Did I hear that wrong? Could be...I was ringing with adrenaline from feeling so great and seeing Peter and Mom and Dad and and and... |
