Hi Hulabird – Yes you have exposed me.. I do live close by the islands. I have worked/lived at the Cristy Ranch many years ago. I know/knew Dr. Cary Stanton in the 1960’s the owner. Spent many times with him telling us about the island from his fathers and his views of the island. The ranch house at prisoners was his front yard, the rest of the island was his back yard, and treated it so. Learned this site from the Ventura Star from the start.

OMG, Roger......you are a Treasure Trove!!!!!!! Oy, the stories you could tell.
I'll light the fire and pull up a stool. Hulabird will make the hot cocoa (or iced tea, as the case may be) and you will have our undivided attention!
C'mon everyone, GROUP MANTLE ((((((((((((Rogrnnr2))))))))))))))

Roger, the hot cocoa is on the fire. And we can make smores if you want. Pulling up the sit-upon (I made one in Girl Scouts) and ready for you to do some story-tellin'. This trip just keeps giving ang giving! Can you tell us how it was in the 60's when there were still bald eagles living in the islands. And then tell us what happened with the DDT and then what happened when Dr Sharpe got there. I think we might need a whole separate thread for you hunny bunny. If you have a long story, we'll copy onto a new thread. Then we'll drive you to drink with our questions and every one that you answer will spawn 10 more. Are you ready for the A-49 Cruzers? We are all mantling you right now!

Wow good evening everyone! Finally finished reading all of the posts. Busy busy and it isn't even nest building time. Just think...I may have to start preparing for nest building/ and then egg incubation and hatching now :D Gotta stay up later just to catch up.
It has been so much fun reading all of the experiences from the trip. I truly feel like I was there ( and then suddenly I was, thanks to Roy) I can't wait to get down there in the spring. Such a beautiful place.

Cumbrian great idea with the pics and bios, but seems like a lot of work on your part. It is nice to put the names with the faces. I appreciate all that you do to bring us the captures and now this. You and Roy are amazing.

Well gonna call it a night. I have to rise early tomorrow and meet and greet the public so I better be well rested. Keep all the wonderful photos coming. I love it

Geez, you guys, you don't make it easy to leave. Going to Fargo, ND, for a week. Must have lost my mind. I live in Southern California. I am really exited about the "to be" parents checking out the nests. Please don't do anything exciting while I'm gone.

I can just picture us all, strung out under the helicopter like the kayaks they were loading onto the boat at Scorpion's.

Was that my imagination, or did I see Eucalyptus (sp?) trees in one of the island photos? I know they don't belong here, yet are all over the mainland. I didn't expect to see them on the island.

Patty, the campground at Scorpion's Anchorage where Ben and I spent Friday and Saturday was in a grove of Eucalyptus trees. Beautiful trees, much appreciated shade, and a whole lotta Monarch butterflies hanging out on the branches: I've never seen so many butterflies!

Look at Rogrnnr2 trying to tip-talon in here without saying hi. OK bub, you are exposed. You've been a member since the 2nd day of the forum's existance and not a single post. What's the story Maury? I successfully outed Manu244 last night. Let's see what I can do with the rest of these people who need us to mantle them. I'm watching the who's logged in list and I WILL catch you. Come on in. We love newbies. There is no cliche. Just join in and you will immediately be mantled into the group!

Welcome Roger! I'm glad you decided to do that first post. It must have been wonderful to live on the islands. I rented a couple of books at the library about the islands and there is soo much history there, it's amazing.

Roger, at the top and bottom of each page is a button called "Add reply". If you use that, you will simply add a new post.

If you want to "Quote" someone (which shows that persons post along with your post), then you click on "Quote".

Hope that helps?
Make sure you ask us for any help you need!

Cumbrian: That's me with the red hair, black hoodie and bluejeans - on the end. Also please p.m. me with your last name, I doubt the post office will accept it with your screen name or first name only.
