You will have to tell us your stories, like it or not. Hula is the Nest Mother, and what she says goes

I will tell this – Dr Cary (MD) was a conservationist first and then a cattle rancher second cherish his ranch (Island), as a backyard.

Roger, we can start with what is SV, CA? Then we need your entire life history on the islands including all you have done to participate in the restoration program. And do you know Dr Sharpe? And do you know he's our rock star? And how was it in the 60's when there were still bald eagles? Don't get me started about all the episodes of Bonanza that Woody records and I see the "Indians" wearing bald eagle feathers. Next, did you see the DDT problem as it was happening? What was the reaction at the time? What is your recollection of the beginning of the restoration project? When did you meet Dr Sharpe? How do you feel about the funding getting cut off? When you finish with these questions, it is going to spawn a thousand more, I hope you're up to us A-49 Cruzers.

That is good to hear Roger. Please tell us more whenever you feel like it and have time. As Hula said, answering one question on this board will guarantee a barrage of new questions. We all learn so much from each other here, It's just wonderful. I can already tell we're gonna learn a lot from you. Thank you for joining us.

Okay, now I'm really off to bed. Goodnight all!

Hulabird – SV CA is Simi Valley, CA. I was on Santa Cruz Island as a hunting guide to rid the island of the pigs and sheep in the late 1960’s. It was Dr. Cary’s wish to rid the island of sheep and pigs. His efforts also was to rid the Island of the non native cactus as you saw from the photos from this weekends trip. His approach in the 1960’s for the cactus was bio (bugs) not chemical. I can go on and on. We, my lady and I, would have gone on the trip, but my lady retired in Friday Oct 20, and we had fun with family and many friends.

my lady of 43 years.

Hi again Roger. Thanks for responding. I want to tip-talon out here and not try to stir up controversy since our forum is nice. But I must go on record as anti-hunting and anti-hunter. Well, that's not to say we don't mantle you. Can you give us some more history of the whole situation? In the 60s-70s times were much different than they are now. I really want to hear all of your point of view even if it goes against mine, I'm not trying to pick a fight but I have to realize that there are people in life that don't share my point of view. I'm kind of nervous about this post but you seem like a gentleman and I will discuss it in a ladylike manner. And I promise that nobody else here will say anything bad to you.

Roger, please don't be sorry you replied. I'm just one person in this group. I am seriously nobody. I am very interested in the history of the bald eagles on our islands though. And it seems like you are as one person called "a treasure trove". I am going to be very pissed at myself if I have denied all of our group your knowledge and history. Please don't go away! Can you picture me wrapping my wings around your legs as you drag me off promising never to return? Well none of us want that. Please stay and tell us your story! Please! <not ashamed to beg>.

PS I notice that almost every single sentence here started with "I" "I" need to examine that "feature" of my writing.
