The firetruck was 'enroute' to help with structure protection when it was overcome with flame on a back road...Just when you think fire season is over (Ojai fire), it kicks back up in a big and terrible way |

ojailala: that is so sad my brother-in-law is a volunteer firefighter - I think there are only a couple paid houses here - all the rest (and there are tons) are all volunteer! I take my hat off to what they do - and all for nothing! It's so dangerous! As to the recent visitors - I'm telling you, they are the new cleaning crew - of course it would be nice if they brought a couple sticks with them to help the cause!!

Jann, be careful what you say in that courtroom.. I ended up on a murder trial jury in Jan-Feb this year.. gang related..never thought they would pick me as juror as I worked for DA investigators for 5 years... wrong..they picked me. Lasted 6 weeks, but again, was a life altering experience, and still having lunch with fellow jurors... |

Aha!!! So...are the smaller birds building their nests now, Peter? Are they finding this nest a good source of materials? I never thought before about birds stealing nest materials from each other! But it makes sense. They'd better just hope they don't get caught by DAD!!! |

Well, I don't know. I was on a jury one time and a juror sat in the box and paid her bills while testimony was going on! She sat there and wrote checks. Shuffled to the next bill. Wrote a check. I was aghast, finally made eye contact with her, shot her "the look" and she put her check book away. And to top it off -- She's a criminal defense attorney. Egad. |

OMG how sad about the firefighters, I LOVE Firemen. I have to email my oldest son, he is the prodution manager for the news station in Palm Desert. This is probably why I haven't heard from him today. I had no idea. This is very sad. . .Thanks for posting the updates. . .I have to call him right now!! |

Cumbrian: we have a stick thief!!! You may recall that we had a robin's nest in a tree in our back yard this spring but something got into the nest and the little ones were lost! But within a day or two, a pair of wrens moved into sort of the bottom part of the nest and I guess they didn't realize why the nest was vacated - their babies were also lost! The nest then remained empty the balance of the spring/summer! At Vancouver nest, there was a lot of little birds always seeming to flit (and maybe live) at the bottom/under that particular nest! But stealing our twigs/sticks!! Dad needs to make a few more unnanounced visits!! |

You know what, this nest has a Camera (Security) so Dad can check and see who is removing his stuff! |

LOL - never thought of that! It might take the security force a bit of time to get the message to dad though! But I hear the front line is mighty quick and nimble in getting the the scene (Dr. Sharpe)!!!

Ojailala, the "Diary of a Sea Captain's Wife, Tales of Santa Cruz Island" is also one of the books I rented from the Library. Must admitt I have not looked at it closely yet. Reading 2 others about Santa Cruz Island right now. I've also read "Island of the Blue Dolphins". Beautiful book. |
