A toast to the brave firefighters who gave their lives.
A toast to the nest and until we meet again.
A toast to all of the sick animals may they be comfortable and recover

Let's hope they find this person(s) who set this fire that killed 4 (probably 5) firefighters...

I can't toast, but my thoughts are with the family and friends of the downed NPS firefighters.

Ozzie privately IM'd me why I couldn't toast. I had to explain to her that a toast is rather celebratory in my view and I just couldn't do it in this case. Again, my thoughts are with the families of the NPS firefighters who gave their lives.

Karen, can we celebrate their lives and heroic deeds?

Excellent photograph, harpo to end this day.........She...A-49 Cruz...brought us all together and we will continue to be together, on this discussion board, working to better the lives of eagles...and other creatures, as well as each other... hopefully, for a long time to come.

Karen, a toast is also given in remembrance....in our family, and with friends, we toast to absent friends.....which can also mean those who have died and gone before us. But I do understand too, how you feel about it.

Darrell, I am sorry that Debi and you have parted company...hopefully temporarily...It is correct what you quoted [They say "If you love something set it free. If it comes back to you it's yours. If it doesn't, it never was." ]. An old Scottish saying of my Grandmother's was " what is for you, won't go past you". Give each other time.....Be strong.....we are here for both of you.

Margiew.......even though it has been a while do not give up hope for Morrisa.

OMG!! I leave for just a couple of hours to meet with a new client and come back to sadness...and NO nest! I feel cheated that I didn't even get the 2 hour warning. Have they said anywhere how LONG the feed will be down? JUST when Dad was starting to bring materials to the nest....looking at that club down there in the last few shots you guys captured kinda got to me. And what am I gonna practice on now that Hula has sent me the 'tool'?? I need to go find some inner peace....brb

Ok folks, calling it a night here.

Thanks to all who posted their families' favourite cold cures........My mom always recommended a Hot Toddy...she was after all Scottish and she would use Scotch (whiskey). I never took to that so it was hot lemonade for me instead.

Sweet dreams............

Good Morning Folks, TGIF.. I ordered my two brothers T-shirts last night . "Support Our Troops", the eagle was very very cool on the T-shirt. They each have a young son going to Irag, one this Dec. and one still in basic training camp, in N.C. One a Marine, one an Army Soldier. Bless them, they are young ( 18 and 19 ) and want to do the right thing for their country.

Oh, breaking my heart.... they're babies. Sorry, ....... but they are.
My youngest son returned from Iraq on New Years Eve 2004. Even tho my husband is a retired Special Forces officer, was in Viet Nam, Korea and Thailand, it doesn't compare to when a son goes! I'll be praying for them as well as all the other men and women in harm's way.

In 1937 the westerly 55000 acres of the island were sold to Edwin L. Stanton, a The Stanton family occupied Santa Cruz Island for 50 years (1937-1987). With Edwin Stantons death in 1963, management of the Island passed to his son Carey Stanton (Rogers employer).

Hi Bea. About 1/3 right. Dr Carey was trying to return the island as much as possible and still make a living (profit) as a rancher, to it’s pre people intrusion. His eradication of the sheep and pigs privately was very costly and could not sustain the costs. Two good friends of mine and he formed the “Santa Cruz Island Hunt Club”, they were the club. My brother-in-law and I and a number of other friends came on as guides, no pay, but knowing who was going to hunt for trophy’s, which I loath, were wealthy and if got what they want, were very good tippers. I was returning to school after coming home from VNam, no GI bill in the immediate future, making no money, I could not turn it down. Dr. Carey was 1/3 my boss and one of my best people/friends until his passing in 1987. I spent 2 years there on weekends, school vacations, when ever I could return for the next 20 years.. The “Hunt Club” only lasted for about 4-5 years because in the trophy world (which I still loath), the word gets out no more “trophies are to be had” they are gone. Yes there were profits and all were used to return the island to natural, and yes it got me through school. Roger

AND my mom was diagnosed today - it is fluid retention on the brain which is becoming a common thing in older folks but does have easy fix with a shunt!

So if you have an older family member - what you should look for: stumbling, slurring of speech, stuttering, some memory loss, incontinence, sometimes tremors We assume that this is just a fact of aging but it's not always the case!!! Most folks have it and don't realize it until several of the affects kick in at the same time. Most of the affects are reversed when the shunt is in place!

OK I'm done! (deited)

Deb, beside the obvious name of Hydrocephaly, do you know the name when it is secondary to advanced age?
How old is mom? I'm so glad they can do soething that will reverse her condition! Thanks for that information.

Ahhhh....Bailey's Irish Cream...I feel better already.

Darrell: oh I'm so sorry to hear about your world going dark. I was there just recently and fortunately it worked out and things are even better. So keep the faith and keep BUSY...and keep here with us. We will mantle you until the hurt goes away and the sun comes out to shine again.

Margie: I had a cat that ran off for an entire month once when the dog bit her foot (broke it)....long story involving my ex-husband....anyway...one day about a month later, my son and I were sitting in the living room watching tv and he said he heard Maggie meowing. We flew to the door and sure enough...there she was on the porch. She ran in and went straight to her water bowl and drank and drank and drank. I thought for sure she was long gone after scouring the neighborhood every day for two weeks and I cried and cried and cried. You just never know.....I don't want to build false hopes but it DID happen for us.

ER:ok...guess I have to go to Missing Persons to find out the next chapter in your neighborhood saga....just glad you're here...whewwww
