ED: Don't say Jann is crying - it's sad enough tonight that I'm about to cry with her now.... Roger: great info It's amazing how different times are - how something 40 - 30 even 10 years ago was the norm. we didn't know my ex was vietnam vet and came home with nothing - couldn't get a decent job - no one wanted to know .... but he, like you, kept at it and made his way! My brother lives on an estate in Virginia working for a very VERY wealthy family - they are the nicest people - very kind - very considerate and they look after nature there! That makes me happy. However, they live in an entirely different world than us for sure! Again thanks for sharing - love to hear your insight.... |

Oh, no! Are you talking about Leyla and her brothers?? Moving all the way over here?? Why, if I may ask???? And is it just temporary, I hope??? you know, I think all of this 'everything' may have gotten to me today. I was on Ft. Bragg at a kiosk that sells Catholic paraphenalia. A woman who seemed to be in her 40s and her beautiful daughter, who seemed to be about 19 or 20, were shopping there. The mother bought a card with a medal. The card was entitled "While you're away". She bought it and then handed it to her daughter and told us that the girl was leaving for Afghanistan (sp). I mentioned (to let her know I had empathy for her) that my son had recently returned from Iraq. Then mom said, "How is it in Iraq?". I shrugged as her daughter said, "It's war, Mom!" On the way home the vision in my right eye suddenly got really blurry and I had to pull over and use the eye drops and wait till it cleared up a bit. All this with a beautiful, sunny, crisp Autumn day, which makes me a little emotional by itself. Well, I got home and was talking to 'you know who'. I started telling him about the mom and daughter and before I realized it, I was sobbing! The girl was so young, the mom was so scared and there were 18 year old kids all around in uniforms that did not fit properly. They all had the flourescent green chest bands on, showing that they were new recruits, only allowed out on base on the weekends. And the other sad thing is that most of these kid, boys and girls, are there because they can't find a decent job outside and the recruiter tells them about learning a trade and getting money for college later, etc. I wonder if they all know that is after and if they return from the war zones??? Sorry. |

Yes, it is Leyla and her brothers. Why? Good question. Unfortunately, we don't have a good answer. We're hoping and praying that it's temporary. |
