apparantly the peanuts from that one company an the products they supplied to the pet and food manufacturers are the problem. They did make some "instituttional peanut butter" but the consumer products are not from them. so your jiff, skippy and peter pan are ok. here is the offical listing of recalled items off the FDA site FDA product list of peanut products recalled |

No it's not ALL peanuts and paste...just one from a specific manufacturer in GA. Here's more info... http://www.fda.gov/oc/po/firmrecalls/peanutcorp201_09.html Edit - thanks George, you have a better link! |

The jars of peanut butter in the supermarket are supposed to be okay. It is the companies who add peanuts into their cookies, candies, etc. - they get a different batch for commercial use in large vats or containers. Sooooo, those cookies or candies could be in the supermarket as well. Read the lables

Happy Birthday, ES, EagleEye - and Trinity! I hope it's OK to post these here - they're about the egg that was laid at the Sooner Lake nest in Oklahoma yesterday. You may remember that's the nest that had 4 eggs last year, then had cam problems - and by the time the cam was back on, there were two half-grown eaglets in the nest. So we really don't know if either or both of the other two eggs hatched. No clue what will happen this year, but they have had three eaglets two or three times. One thing I found surprising was that it appeared as if Mom Sooner was in labor for about 3 hours before she laid the egg. I really had the impression that it was usually a faster process. However, I do hop from nest to nest, and know a little about a lot of eagle pairs - while some of you have spent a lot of time watching the nests here and really getting to know the pairs - so I'd love to know if this seems longer than usual to you, or if I've just never realized what was going on until near the end. Thanks! I originally posted these on the Maine forum - rgeegee (who did the great video I reference) is a regular poster there. The Egg - Part I. This is a bit after the fact, but I thought I'd post the general timeline from yesterday's grand event. Please note that Cam 1 and Cam 2 view the nest from different sides - Mom was in the same general position in all of these shots. It was around 12:25 nest time when I first noticed one of the adults standing in an unusual position for a few minutes; the adult then snuggled into the nest bowl, then got up and moved a few sticks around - leading me to think it was Dad. But then the adult resumed the standing position at the edge of the nest bowl, and it looked as if she was straining. ![]() I'd had the impression for other nests that eggs usually appeared fairly soon after we observed a parent in an egg-laying position, sort of fluffed up and straining a bit. But this behavior continued for quite a while. Around 1:10, the male showed up. He stood there for a while, then tried to peek underneath to see if anything was happening: ![]() They were in the nest together for 10 minutes or so, and then around 1:23, Mom stretched her wings - and left! ![]() Dad looked around the nest, and left a few minutes later. Mom had been in what looked to me like the eagle equivalent of labor for about an hour - and no egg. I wasn't sure what to think - didn't know if eagles could have false labor - and was a bit concerned that she might be egg bound or have some other problem that could threaten the egg and/or her. In the interest of limiting myself to 4 pictures per post, the story will continue shortly. |

The Egg - Part II. I suspect that more people were watching at this point, because the cams began to freeze. The nest was empty for a bit, then when I logged back on at 2:13, both eagles were back at the nest Mom moved into the same general position she'd been in before, and after a few minutes Dad left. ![]() Mom continued standing there, straining regularly and moving about some (rgeegee's video does a great job of showing that) - and at about 3:47 - she laid the egg! ![]() Dad showed up shortly thereafter to admire it: ![]() It seemed to take her a while to get comfortable (I still think this looks like a big egg!), but she eventually settled down, with occasional stretches and turning of the egg.

The Egg - Part III I'm still trying to decide if this egg is larger than usual. Here are two pics of Mom with the egg: ![]() And here are two pics from the Blackwater nest: ![]() My conclusion is that I can't tell. The Blackwater cam is above the nest, so the adult will always be closer to the cam than the eggs - and therefore appear larger. If Mom Sooner does decide to lay additional eggs, we should be able to compare the size of those!

OMG the police are here AGAIN!!! The guy in #7....they searched his car and he has 3 guns in the car. I went outside to say goodbye to my old neighbors that I have lived with for 13 years. Around the corner comes Ventura PD. It's like they are here 3 times a week. They were looking in the guys car. Well, I finally got about 4 hours sleep in a row and I feel a little better sleep wise. But man this rain and "cold" plays havoc on my body. |
