At the cam in Estonia, they are putting out all kinds of food for the wild animals that is not fit for human consumption to help them get through the bitterly cold winters there.  :)^  Some of those eagles travel from neighboring countries to get some of it.

Penny - Where is Estonia? Other than over in the Balkans somewhere, I mean? :P There are so many cams available now that I can't keep up! Why not take care of our furred & feathered brethren with all the food we dump into landfills?

Kathie The Republic of Estonia is a Baltic country bordered by Latvia and the Russian Federation. It is across the Gulf of Finland from Finland and across the Baltic Sea from Sweden in Northern Europe.

See Wikipedia for more info

Here is one of their live eagle cams:

It is night there now though :D.

Oh wow Penny - you really were talking about THAT Estonia! I figured it was a town up in Canada or maybe in Oregon or somewhere! I'll check the cam when the sun comes up someday. PH is dark now too but the frogs and the birdies still sound wonderful....

Anyone need another Owl cam?

The Tawny Owl (Strix aluco) has been chosen as the Bird of the Year for 2009 by the Estonian Ornithological Society. It inhabits Estonian cultural landscapes including parks, cemeteries, and forest patches between fields. The species is widespread in the western part of the country and on the islands. Tawny owls have occupied 10% of the nest boxes which have been placed for them. There are two plumage colour morphs of the Tawny Owl – grey and light brown. Studies carried out in Estonia between 1977 and 1990 of 251 adult birds have shown a slight majority of grey birds – 54,6% – in comparison with light brown – 45,4%. In the Bird of the Year project the Ornithological Society will pay significant attention to the distribution of tawny owls with different colorations in Estonia.

Here's the Estonian Tawny Owl Cam which went online yesterday.

Oh Lala, your folks are going to have the best party! I can just imagine the tented deck with the lights glowing and masses of flowers everywhere. I'll keep :X: that the rain stays away - at least from your little corner of paradise. Did I miss the post of what all is on the menu? Besides all the lovely cakes, that is?

Yes, Lala, the menu, please! :Yum:

Like you have nothing else to do!

Really, though, congrats from the East Coast and a toast to your parents on their 75th anniversary. Not many couples make it to 50 years, let alone 75.

I know how much work goes into a party like that....I'm sure you'll be glad when it's over.

But don't forget to take a few moments during the party to enjoy...and rejoice!

You don't know how lucky you are!

Great news Kathie but I didn't read anything about how they taught him to find/catch his food. He has had no role models to emulate.

When a wild Panda was released into it's natural habitat in China, it was almost killed by another wild bear. I'll be praying that little Smokey won't become a victim again :X:
