Someone in the last couple of days was asking about the CA bird counts.....here's an article I found today.

Volunteers sought for eagle count in Inland mountain areas Saturday

11:50 AM Tue, Feb 10, 2009
Posted by: PE News

Volunteers are needed to help count bald eagles for one hour this Saturday at lakes throughout the San Bernardino and San Jacinto Mountains, say U.S. Forest Service officials.

"The San Bernardino Mountains support the largest wintering bald eagle population in Southern California," forest service biologist Robin Eliason said in a written statement.

"Numbers (of eagles in) the Big Bear Basin have fluctuated over the past 22 years, from lows of 6 to 7 to highs of 35 to 40."

Simultaneous counts will be held at Big Bear Lake, Baldwin Lake, Little Green Valley Lake, Lake Gregory, Lake Arrowhead, Lake Silverwood and Lake Hemet. Volunteers need only binoculars, a watch and warm clothes, according to the statement.

Volunteers for the Big Bear Lake area will meet at 8 a.m. the San Bernardino National Forest Discovery Center on North Shore Drive. Lake Arrowhead volunteers will meet at 8 a.m. at the Arrowhead Ranger Station on Highway 18 in Skyforest. Also meeting at 8 a.m. will be volunteers at the Silverwood Lake State Park visitors center.

At 8:30 a.m., volunteers for the Lake Hemet count will meet at Lake Hemet Grocery Store.

VICKI/SUMMER818--CONGRATULATIONS AND BRAVO!BRAVO! BRAVO! - On you tremendous weight loss---didn't happen without a lot of hard work and commitment on your part! I bet you feel 10 years younger and 10 years peppier too :W: :```:

I have been so enjoying the past two mornings walking up at a park near me. The San Gabriel Mountains snow covered against the clear blue sky, on my right and the ocean and Catalina Island view on my left and the meadowlarks and gnatcatchers and other birds singing their hearts out. Pure morning bliss!

Supposed to get more rain --chances good from Thursday on thru Sunday and Monday, they say. I hope so, bring it on! Then when it stops more beautiful snowcovered mountains to enjoy viewing and much needed water in the reservoirs!

Vicki, me too.. I thought you looked fabulous at the Getty... but now you have really reached your goal or almost your goal... How will I recognize you the next time we meet???? You will have to wave an eagle flag or something...

Oh, Linda, I'm the same ol Getty Four! You'll recognize me. The weight loss, just caught up (finally) I'm probably only 10 pounds less than last time you saw me. But that last 10 did the 50! Now, the next 10 are gonna be the hardest! Thanks Lala, and wishing you a wonderful evening and good luck with the 75th Anniversary Party. :)^

My DH and I just came home and there were a bunch (probably 25 or more) of big birds flying over going north. You could hear them. It was great. We figured they were sand cranes but we could not tell for sure as they were too high up. I thought at first they were Canadian Geese but my husband who is from Canada said no.

I tried to take a picture with the camera on my phone but again they were too far away. :(

Carlea, good to 'see' you! I believe a while back you mentioned you had Fibromyalgia and that they put you one one of the new drugs for that. How has it worked for you? Any side effects.
Yesterday, after years and years of me telling them that was what I had, they finally made the diagnosis! I started taking Cymbalta last night. Did not have a problem getting to sleep but I woke up very, very early and then was in a 'awake with eyes closed' condition till the alarm went off.Had 'morning sickness' (almost) this a.m. Now I just have a dry mouth, weak in knees feeling. The good news is that the side effects are supposed to go away in 1 or 2 weeks. Also good news was that I hopped out of bed this morning before I realized I didn't hobble before I could walk!! I was just so happy to finally get the diagnosis after all these painful years.
I hope you are doing well.

Penny: They will run Reruns of the Westminster Show. Not sure when. I too need to watch it when it comes on. Ken thought he was taping it, but he had run out of room so he missed the first night with the German Shepherd Dog as well as the Dalmatian. I like to study the Bloodlines of the G.S.D. since I own one.

The Breeder I bought Bell from her father had a G.S.D. win his Class years ago @ Westminster. It was Benji.

:<:: The German Shepherd and the Dalmation were crowd favorites for sure.. I love the Shepherd doing his turn around the arena.. very sleek and looked like a winner to me...

LaLa The BIS Judge at Westminster is always put into seclusion until just before the BIS Class begins. As so not to influence the decision.

I think that is what I was posting... I guess I should have said that they do this every year.... that it wasn't just a good idea for this year...

At the cam in Estonia, they are putting out all kinds of food for the wild animals that is not fit for human consumption to help them get through the bitterly cold winters there.  :)^  Some of those eagles travel from neighboring countries to get some of it.

Penny - Where is Estonia? Other than over in the Balkans somewhere, I mean? :P There are so many cams available now that I can't keep up! Why not take care of our furred & feathered brethren with all the food we dump into landfills?

Vicki - that's so cool what you guys did for the critters after the Malibu fire! I hadn't heard that story before! :ok:

Karen I have just read the story you posted earlier today at
http://z7.invisionfree.com/CHIL_EagleCAM/i...post&p=16161223 and was amazed. That could have come right out of an Ian Fleming James Bond thriller. Thanks for posting that. :)^

My father was lucky to never have been captured but he also never wanted to discuss any of his war experiences overseas.
