Lens there looks to be the canon 400mm 5.6 or 500mm 5.6 L lens which are $$$$$
not the normal lens most of we peons have in our camera bags thats for sure!

400mm is about $1,000 and the 500 is about $5000.00 to show how serious a habbit being a cameraholic is :P

<::: HORNBY EAGLE NEST UPDATE - February 13, 2009

<3 <3 Posted Image <3 <3
Screencap images by Mickeysmom

From Doug Carrick:

I am getting excited about the coming eagle season. Never before have I seen our eagles do so much nest building or "nestoration" as the Forum people express it. They are more than making up for last year and seem determined to reproduce. Laying eggs? hatching? chicks? eaglets fledging? Let's hope so. What a treat that would be.

The green branches are dumped into the nest and left for a few weeks until the needles fall off. Then the remaining twigs are removed from the bowl and placed around the edges. After that, they add dry grass and moss to cushion the nest before laying eggs in the last week of March.

February is the month of mating ... extending into March, but you are unlikely to see this. It seldom occurs in the nest - usually in a perch tree - and never in the air, as the common myth suggests. I saw them mating on February 3, and there have been many other times, I'm sure, but the weather hasn't been conducive to much gardening - the time I observe such activities.

The Herring are Coming! This morning, I saw long line of gulls, a mile or so off the beach, swimming over a school of herring. Looking in my telescope, I saw 10 or 12 Killer whales working over this same area (water spouts, backs breaking the water, dorsal fins and splashing). And a few eagles had flown out to try their luck. Each day the herring come closer to the shore until the first week of March when they spawn on the seaweeds attached to the beach - a bonanza of food for all. Two weeks later, the eagles will lay their eggs.

Ian, you will be interested in this because it involves poker. We have a friend from Winnipeg who has been playing poker in the LA Poker Classic at the Commerce Casino. He has been playing in a no limit hold'em poker tournament since last Thursday.

He has now advanced to the final 18 and they will be playing again starting at 4:00 PM today. He was still playing up until 2:00 AM this morning. He is playing against some of the top poker players in NA and was so happy to make the final cut. He had to change his flight home as he didn't expect to be in the finals  If he finishes in the top three he will get either $30,000, $40,000 or the top prize of $50,000.

We hope he places in the money because then he is taking us out to dinner on the town. :)^ We had a mini tour of the casino today and what an absolute mad house. There is poker, poker, and more poker going on everywhere in that place. All kinds of entry levels too.

Being non players, it was quite something for us to have all the scenarios explained to us. :D
We will continue to be just watchers, not players....it's really a very stressful and brutal game, especially when you are playing against people who have no fear of losing large amounts of money :o

How many people win a prize? With these types of large tournaments if you make it down to the final 2 tables you're usually in the money, and then the amount of the prize you get goes up as you place higher (and usually it goes up very sharply when you get to the final table).

Were you watching him live or was the tournament televised?

Julian

Awesome slideshow Karen :)^ You have nothing to apologize for either.

Are you sure those were ducks at the Lake? They looked like some other waterbird to me  I didn't miss seeing all that snow though :D Looked like a very scenic setting for your Anniversary celebration, too bad it was too cold for the pool. You'll have to go back when they have warmer weather there. Thanks for taking us along with you. :><: :><: :><:

I am not sure of the answers to your questions Ian but I don't think this tournament is being televised. We had breakfast with him this morning once he got up. Our friend will call us later tonight to let us know what happened. We may not hear from him until tomorrow if it ends really late though. I'll ask him about the payouts when we talk to him. :ok:
