http://www.danheller.com/images/Europe/Ire...nluce-a-big.jpg  In Tristan and Isolde this is where Isolde was from and where we will go on the Ireland visit peetie

ah i saw Tristan und Isolde at the beyreuth festival when i was in germany. Wagnerian opera is not really my cup of tea but it was interesting none the less to see as well as half of the ring cycle Gotterdemerung (twilight of the gods) and Valkyrie. The four parts of the ring cycle are about 14 and 1/2 hours and the reason for the saying "the opera aint over til the fat lady sings". rofl

Other musical tidbit of trivia for you, Wagner's theme from "die meistersanger der Nuremburg" is often played at commencements along with the traditional pomp and circumstance

George, where are you from please?

I am from the western philly burbs. Grandparents were from Scandinavia and one of my other grandparents was from a small town in wales famous for cheese, caerphilly. As for my other grandmother she was the one in the family who can trace back to the salem witch trials of 1672 when her clergyman ancestor got hung over a little dispute with cotten mather

My mother's name is Alfhild. Very similar to Brunhilda of wagnerian opera . the translation from old norse is "warlike elve"
