I think I saw painted ones for sale in the last few years at those stores set up in the middle of La Cumbre mall here. |

Lala, I love the picture of your parents with all the great grandchildren. What a treasure! I come from a really small family, and I just love to see these huge family gatherings. I have one brother, not married, no kids. My mom had one brother who had three kids. Two of them have two kids each (one of the four is deceased), the third has just one kid. Some of my cousin's kids have kids I have not met. My dad was an only child. His dad had one sister, never married. I think my grandmother had a bit larger family but none of them lived near us. My husband is one of four kids. Between the four of them, there have only been three grandchildren (and that will be it). His mother is an only child. There was a larger extended family that lived near each other when they grew up, but we aren't really in contact with any of them. My father-in-law was one of 7 kids, and that family really is large, with lots of kids and great grandkids. Most of them are scattered throughout TX. We see some of them occasionally, but it has been years and years since the "whole" family got together. Anyway, I bet the party that you had on Saturday will be remembered and talked about for a long time to come! I hope everyone had their cameras with them. How wonderful to be able to celebrate your parent's 75th anniversary! This year will be our 30th anniversary, and we have been married longer than either set of our parents. If we make it to 50 years, I will be 75! Now that is a thought! |

Bachelor- looks like what they have been teasing us with all season is finally going to happen in 2 weeks. The return of Deanna. I have always had a problem with the sleep overs. You have to know most of them are not simply holding hands judging by what the do let us see in the hot tubs. If I'm the girls I would no longer be interested knowing he had slept with all three of us in less than a week. Idol - interesting, not sure I like this years format |

One of my slides of a rhino- This was taken at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi, Kenya.Yeah, I don't like the sleepovers either Lauren. And I think it's awful they're bringing Deanna back. So unfair to the two gals left. I think he'll end up with Melissa though. |

My mother always had a red-eared turtle...the ones you could buy at Kress, Newberrys or Woolworths with the little clear plastic "island" and the green plastic palm tree. She kept it in a large metal pan with water and a rock so it cold get out of the water and sun itself. She kept the pan outside most of the day and inside at night. She'd feed it hamburger occasionally but most of the time she'd whack a fly with the fly swatter and give it to the turtle...also, maybe some grubs from the garden. They'd lived for years and the shell could get to be at least 6 in. in diameter. The red-ears are in the pond behind our home and in the spring they come up to our yard to lay their eggs . I've taken some pictures in the morning as "Mom" is making her way back to the pond. There are many obstacles in it's journey back to the pond so I just pick it up and take back if I see her. Last year was the first year that some of the eggs hatched and the only way I knew that was because I found three tiny empty turtle shells. I believe the crows wait for the babies and before they can get back to the pond they snatch them up...the empty shells were in the birdbath. Chiquita |

Yeah, Chiquita...turtles have a really hard time surviving after hatching. I watched a special on sea turtles once and they have such a long journey to the water after hatching in the sand. So many obstacles between the birds and other predators. Its a wonder any survive. |

Penny, I'm no prude by any stretch of the imagination. However, the overnight dates on the Bachelor are a bit..sleezy. Sleeping with someone, whether things went on or not, it appears they did. If I were Jillian I would have wondered, was I not good enought or... I liked her the best. From the get go, I liked her, too bad he didn't fall in love with her.

Jillers, I love your Africa pictures. Looks like a gerenuk to me. (fyi, a gazelle is an antelope, so either one would be correct!) http://www.awf.org/content/wildlife/detail/gerenuk |
