This past week, myself, Amanda, and Rosanne all headed to Santa Rosa Island to search for eagles on that island. Despite all the rain, we were able to get out to survey some areas of the island; however the weather i.e. fog and rain did not make it easy for us to confirm tag numbers on the eagles. We made it to China Camp on the southwestern side of Santa Rosa Island, just in time to get a glimpse of two eagles. One was an adult, and the other a juvenile, A-64. Of course the skies opened up right as we saw those two birds, and we had to leave before the rain prevented us from driving back on the roads. I was able to get a picture of where A-64 has been hanging out when we went back another day, but of course he wasn't there that day. Cluster Point at China Camp (A-64's Recent Location) ![]() Amanda, Rosanne, and I also headed out to Carrington Point and Lobo Canyon to search for eagles. Several of our bald eagles have been spotted out there so we were hoping to find someone perched out there. Although we didn't see any eagles, we did locate a peregrine falcon pair and found several nesting cormorants. We built a blind out there also, so that we could sit in it when we return to monitor the status of the nest. Stephanie, it looks like all the birds enjoy using the cliff walls for their respective nests. Is that because there are no really high trees for the eagles to use? Great pics of the area. Thanks for keeping us posted and I hope the weather clears up for all of you out there in the field

Dear Stephanie, Oh, thanks for the great update... nice to know where A-64 is hanging out, too! You guys must have got a bit wet out there this past week! At least you're back in the sun, for a bit, anyway. It's very exciting to know the birds are spreading out among the islands! Makes your job a bit tougher but.... Lauri |

Thanks so much for the great update Stephanie. I was so pleased to know that A-64 is still hanging around..........kinda partial to him! That was great to see the nesting Cormorants and Peregrine falcons too. You guys must have had a real time of it with all that rain and wind. Take care and enjoy some sunny days! |
