yes the pump is our salvation! imho its the greatest invention since the disposable syringe. Theyve come a long way since i had my first pump too in 1981. Theyre much more sophisticated and compact.

Which one are you using? the minimed or the animas? Was using the minimeds for the past 7 years but recently switched to the animas "ping" pump which even talks to the meter making it easier to bolus.

Tonight, i was instructed to reduce my various basal rates to 60% of normal so that should work well. Of course, you know the routine. If i am feeling "off" i shall test and make further adjustments if needed.

Egads my first pump had no programable basal rate and i had to dilute u100 insulin with baterio static saline to a concentration of u11. (that shows how long ive had experience with the pump.) :)^

George, I didn't get a pump until Nov of last year. Don't know why I waited soooo long! I've had diabetes for 43 years now, and remember having to boil glass syringes. Disposables were great.
I'm using the mini-med and have a meter that sends the reading to the pump. I'm not familiar with the Animus? Soon I should have the continuous glucose monitor and will go from 6-8 finger sticks a day to 2! Can't wait.

Holy Cow....31 pages of NO's today and what a day it was. :)^

If K 10 was delivering all that fish to K 26 it must mean an egg is imminent :X: ....maybe there will even be one in their nest in the morning :><: :><: :><:

To me, 31 pages is way too many for the purpose of the NO forum.. I thought it was for Peter and Steffani to check at night and see what is going on in a general way with each nest.. food, bonding, attacks... I'm not sure they are able to get through even 5 pages at the end of their day... I still think a general nest report at the end of the day would be helpful to them... Each nest would have a very general report of anything of importance... we could still all post our findings on NO like we do now... Peter and Steffani could check PH nest and have a one or two page report (with photos) of what happened that day with that nest and pair.
Easy for me to say, I don't capture pics and haven't been on NO much because it seems "covered'...and everything I post there is repeated by others... Not sure if this is possible at all... but it is a suggestion because if we have 31 pages with one egg... just wait for all of our nests to have babies in them...

replying to my own post... if NO is not for Peter and Steffani's daily reference.. if they don't check it on a regular basis... then, things are fine the way they are...I do like reading it and checking the pictures of significant events throughout the day..just trying to make it easy for B-)) and :<S><:

Carole,

Have Mr. & Mrs. Mallard caught on to the goodies that Sara And Sota get from you?

They sure have but I don't feed them as much as the Moorhens. I've created 2 little monsters with Sara and Sota, don't want to deal with 4.

Can't wait.

I recently retired the minimed 712 paradigm pump which i had for 4 years and the 508 before it.

I too have been a diabetic for 40 years and i just missed the glass syringes. I was lucky to be a guniea pig for the first humulin dna spliced insulins and an early glucose meter user. Remeber when we had to stick the finger then wash the strip off with water from what resembled a katsup container you would see in some diner??

It is amazing how diabetic management has changed even in just the past 10 to 15 years.

I think with the pump you will no longer be riding hte roller coaster of highs and lows and will not have the "burnt out" feeling at hte peaks and valleys of your sugars thru the day. The pump has kept my ha1c's well below 7 so i am a happy camper.

remember those "fun" early am hypoglycemic events when the intermediate acting insulin we took at bedtime peaked? Those gave me the need for more nose jobs than micheal jackson from the convulsion like bouncing around off my
oak furniture.

Thankfully, despite forty years on insulin, i have no complications of any sort. I count myself lucky to have been able to see the proper speicalists who were in hte vanguard of tight control.

Ive used the continuous glucose monitoring set up for the three days to allow my doctor to determine the proper basal rates. My understanding is that the CGMS sensors are not cheap that go with the pump itself. Ideally when they perfect the proper algorithms and have a sensor that will last and can be combined with the infusion sets we will have the diabetic's "holy grail" a closed loop pump. The defacto "artificial pancreas"

The minimed pump and the support with such things as ordering the infusions ets and such was alot better before they were bought out by medtronic. Even my endocrine doc has noticed a difference.

The animas pump is made by johnson and johnson and their us headquarters is not too far up the road from me in Malvern/Westchester Pa. near the home of that tv shopping channel QVC..

Both of these pumps seem to be the preferred amongst the diabetic doctors it seems

(For some odd reason i am still awake here in philly despite my procedure tomorrow)

Who cares how many pages are in the NO chat thread as long as it is NO related. Steffani told me she likes to read what we say and that is all that matters. I am thankful to all who post over there as I do not have time to stay glued to the web cam :D

Holy Cow 31 pages of NO.....I thought that more eggs were laid, but I see still only TH. I can only imagine when all other eggs are laid how many pages there will be. Thanks to those who capture and record those moments. I generally check the last pages of NO to get the best summary of the day that I can. I can't handle going through that many pages. I have been awfully busy at work these days and haven't had too much time to scan the pages.
Thankfully I still have a job and there will always be cavities :D We have also been busy going into the community to do outreach so I suppose that has made an impact as well on the little ones coming to get their teeth checked. Also our institution is going to electronic charts so we have a huge project ahead of us. Already have been to several "training" courses and it is just overwhelming at this point.

Can't wait for more eggs and eaglets :^: :^: So nice to see that the juvies are doing well.
