I recently retired the minimed 712 paradigm pump which i had for 4 years and the 508 before it.

I too have been a diabetic for 40 years and i just missed the glass syringes. I was lucky to be a guniea pig for the first humulin dna spliced insulins and an early glucose meter user. Remeber when we had to stick the finger then wash the strip off with water from what resembled a katsup container you would see in some diner??

It is amazing how diabetic management has changed even in just the past 10 to 15 years.

I think with the pump you will no longer be riding hte roller coaster of highs and lows and will not have the "burnt out" feeling at hte peaks and valleys of your sugars thru the day. The pump has kept my ha1c's well below 7 so i am a happy camper.

remember those "fun" early am hypoglycemic events when the intermediate acting insulin we took at bedtime peaked? Those gave me the need for more nose jobs than micheal jackson from the convulsion like bouncing around off my
oak furniture.

Thankfully, despite forty years on insulin, i have no complications of any sort. I count myself lucky to have been able to see the proper speicalists who were in hte vanguard of tight control.

Ive used the continuous glucose monitoring set up for the three days to allow my doctor to determine the proper basal rates. My understanding is that the CGMS sensors are not cheap that go with the pump itself. Ideally when they perfect the proper algorithms and have a sensor that will last and can be combined with the infusion sets we will have the diabetic's "holy grail" a closed loop pump. The defacto "artificial pancreas"

The minimed pump and the support with such things as ordering the infusions ets and such was alot better before they were bought out by medtronic. Even my endocrine doc has noticed a difference.

The animas pump is made by johnson and johnson and their us headquarters is not too far up the road from me in Malvern/Westchester Pa. near the home of that tv shopping channel QVC..

Both of these pumps seem to be the preferred amongst the diabetic doctors it seems

(For some odd reason i am still awake here in philly despite my procedure tomorrow)

No neuropathy? My feet (especially) and my fingers are numb. I've had A1C as low as 5. Imagine how many lows I had during that 3 month period.
My insurance paid for the pump and all supplies and they also pay for the CGMS. Not sure what the hold-up on receiving that is.
I know you're nite-nite, so best to you on Friday!
We're waiting for good news.

Linda, I'd ask your cousins name but what are the chances? I've lived here all my life. Yep, right at the base of America's Mountain, Pikes Peak.

yes the pump is our salvation! imho its the greatest invention since the disposable syringe.  Theyve come a long way since i had my first pump too in 1981. Theyre much more sophisticated and compact.

Which one are you using? the minimed or the animas?  Was using the minimeds for the past 7 years but recently switched to the animas "ping" pump which even talks to the meter making it easier to bolus.

Tonight, i was instructed to reduce my various basal rates to 60% of normal so that should work well.  Of course, you know the routine.  If i am feeling "off" i shall test and make further adjustments if needed.

Egads my first pump had no programable basal rate and i had to dilute u100 insulin with baterio static saline to a concentration of u11.  (that shows how long ive had experience with the pump.) :)^

George, I didn't get a pump until Nov of last year. Don't know why I waited soooo long! I've had diabetes for 43 years now, and remember having to boil glass syringes. Disposables were great.
I'm using the mini-med and have a meter that sends the reading to the pump. I'm not familiar with the Animus? Soon I should have the continuous glucose monitor and will go from 6-8 finger sticks a day to 2! Can't wait.

Hey Whispy & George is that in english???

Every dis ease has it's own language....even  has a language of it's own.

I did not know this but do you know what the universal culture of sex is? Every culture regulates sexual behavior. There are laws in every culture about it. Did not realize that before.

Nah....Just teasing you!! I remember Nature Gal once was using "lingo" of some sort to describe something. I said the same thing to her. I think it could actually be educational to some of us.
