Good morning Cruzers - glad to see that George is home and doing well. Sorry it got delayed but all's well now! It's quite cold here - they say snow tonight but I don't think any kind of accumulation! I think ES is sleeping with the snow blower tonight just in case! Of course it's Saturday - I can actually sleep in - but NO - I'm wide awake so...... |

Eaglepedia Revisited: June 16, 2008 A new nest is about five feet wide and two feet high, with an inside depression 4-5 inches deep and 20 inches in diameter. Often a pair returns to the same nest year after year, adding a new layer of sticks, branches and cornstalks, plus a lining of grass, moss, twigs and weeds. Enlarged annually, some nests grow so big and heavy that they break the branches supporting them. http://www.pgc.state.pa.us/pgc/cwp/view.asp?a=458&q=150755 ![]() http://www.naturalsciences.org/education/Y...gle%20nest.html ![]() AND February 19, 2008 Although the eagle can adapt to the location where they decide to build a nest there are very similar traits in the trees they choose. The ideal tree for a bald eagle nest has a large crown or V shape to provide a lot of room to build the roomy nest. The bald eagle usually chooses the oak, hemlock, sycamore, pine or poplar tree. Typically the eagle builds the nest near the top of a tree that is somewhere between 50 and 150 feet tall. The perfect tree is almost always near the water. <a href='http://www.oodlesonbaldeagles.com/2007/04/...the-bald-eagle/' target='_blank'>http://www.oodlesonbaldeagles.com/2007/04/...the-bald-eagle/</a> ![]() http://www.naturalsciences.org/education/Y...gle%20nest.html & http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Ba...e_nest_noaa.jpg AND October 16, 2007 Bald eagle nests (aeries) are usually found in tall trees near bodies of open water or wetlands, using sticks, mosses, feathers, grasses and leaves to build their nests. They mate for life, sometimes separating briefly during non-nesting season, however, coming back to the same nest each year. They add new material to make the nest bigger and more comfortable, sometimes reaching up to 3 m across and 1 m high! They can weigh as much as a car! If storms or other natural causes destroy the eagles’ nests, they often rebuild in a tree nearby. In winter, most migrate to a winter feeding ground. A few bald eagles may live year-round in one place if all the conditions are right. Nesting: The Creative Way - If there are no trees, some eagles will make their nests on whatever they find - on the top of old telephone poles, dock pilings, ship masts, even light posts. Bald eagles will sometimes nest on the ground. They only do this on islands or other places where there are no trees and no predators on the ground. http://www.globio.org/glossopedia/article...._nm=Bald+Eagles ![]() Channel Island Grassland Nest Visit Eaglepedia DISCLAIMER: Information here has been gathered in good faith from the internet and cannot be guaranteed to be totally accurate. |

Well thank you for your best wishes. I too am wide awake as i was unable to get any sleep last night. I just could not get asleep laying on my side due to the pain from the leg despite taking the delaudid tablet every four hours. We too here in philly may have some snow this evening but they said less than an inch of slush on lawns. I think they said maybe 1 to 2 inches up in the Leighigh valley of allentown. I am going to try to get some sleep today however. I have decided to try migrating to my sofa downstairs to see if i can place myself into a less painfull position. Also, does anyone know or have the seen if the Barn Owl's first egg has hatched yet over at the starr ranch site? I was having trouble getting into the site last night. |
