TODAY'S PANDA UPDATE

Monday, February 23
As I’m sure some of you have heard or noticed, Yang is entering breeding season and Xi Lan has become more active in the dayroom. This created an interesting situation this morning. In breeding season, males go on long walking bouts, which we describe as “locomoting.” During this time, Yang wanders all over his exhibit, from corner to corner, occasionally passing by the glass between the habitat and the dayroom. While I was watching Xi Lan play on top of his structure, I noticed right at the moment that Yang passed by the glass, Xi Lan stopped and stared. His facial expression was literally, “Who is that?”

In the wild, male adult pandas generally wouldn't come across their offspring. Mothers are very protective and will keep their cubs away from any other adult giant panda. Xi Lan didn’t get down from the structure, but instead stayed and watched Yang walk for a bit more. After a minute or two, Xi Lan became bored with Yang’s locomoting behaviors and continued to play on the wooden structure like a kid on a jungle gym.

GEORGE when you take your dressings off try putting alcohol (RUBBING) around, and on the incision. It helps with the itching. If the nerves were cut your not going to feel too much. If you do blow on it. I did this for my shoulder and it felt wonderful even though I had to blow on it a little while. It also helps to dry up the Surgical Site faster. Be careful with the clips.

incision is nicely closed with no seepage out from it, Personally when they put the mole cloth over the area and then wrapped that from below the knee to above the knee it was too tight. I think that was the reason for the itchiness

I couldn't resist posting just 2 more. One turtle has his leg
on the other, a balancing act. The egret doesnt seem to
bother the turtles at all.

Carole I guess those turtles have nothing to worry about because they look far too large to become the egrets next lunch :)^

Glad to hear your pain is lessening and that the healing has begun George. Have you heard that the Ritz Camera specialty chain has declared Chapter 11? :o They have 1,100 stores.

Chapter 11 is for reorganizing...it doesn't mean they are going out of business at the moment
