Dawn how cool is that to have a nest not far from you! Here on Long Island we have hawks and osprey - guess the eagles don't want to cross the LI Sound! My hubby and I finally made the trip up to the Hudson River late Jan/Feb several times to see some of the wintering eagles! AWESOME! anyway - welcome aboard! (here and at IWS Eagle Forum)

THIS IS THE REPLY I GOT FROM THE OKLAHOMA NEST............ Dear Bald Eagle NestCam Fans, Thanks to the many of you who expressed concern about the black plastic trash bag that blew into the nest yesterday and at times almost completely enveloped the incubating eagle. We were aware of the situation and monitoring it, and too busy doing that to respond to your urgent e-mails. To us there appeared to be no actual immediate harm or damage to the adults or eggs while we were watching, it was threatening though, no argument there. For us to have intervened and gone to the nest to remove the bag would have disturbed the incubating birds for so long a time (safely climbing into the nest takes at least an hour) that the eggs would surely have been chilled and the embryos killed. Luck was with us and the eagles, at 09:19 (camera time) a gentle northern breeze lofted the bag out of the nest. The amazed and curious "expression" on the adult eagle's face was, as they say, 'PRICELESS'. Meanwhile, we have captured several still shots and some video that will serve to remind us Humans to not litter, and that litter can have unintended consequences. Regards, Alan M. ALAN JENKINS Asst. Director G. M. Sutton Avian Research Center Bartlesville, OK |

Thank you for the update Carole, I know many of us were worried about that nasty ol trashbag. I'm so glad it's not in the nest, a true lesson of what a hazard trash is to our precious wildlife. |

So happy about this, Carole. That was my concern, too, that they would not be able to do anything about the bag for fear of disturbing the nest. Talk about luck, with the wind .... a blessing. |

Eagleaddict...so sorry you have strep! Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt! Glad you went to the dr. Strep left untreated can lead to scarlet fever. That is no fun. My son had strep once with NO symptoms...none whatsoever...until he broke at in a bright red rash ALL OVER his body...even the palms of his hands. They did a strep culture and it was positive  Want to be careful with that stuff. Anyway, glad you are a bit better today

Carole - Thank you for sharing the letter from Mr. Jenkins. It's good to know that the OK eagles are being well looked after and that we are not the only worry warts who were concerned about them! |

SoaringFeather, Welcome to a fellow Alabamaian to this great forum. We are sooo happy to have you and the kids with us. I am from the Gadsden area, live in Southside actually and we have one nest here that I live near. I have not as yet seen an Eagle in the area but they have been spotted by others. I keep my eyes skyward just in case. I will look forward to your post and maybe of the :soar: near you. |
