I was so happy last night to read that K-25 laid her first egg of the year! I was watching the PH nest at work, and the last time I checked it before I left, it was empty! By the time I got home last night, it had happened. I am so happy for this. The PH nest was the first one I found last year, and like everyone, I fell in love with K25, K10, and Skye and Spirit. I hope they have good luck with eggs this year. Has anyone seen K10 this morning? I know I should look on NO, but I'm at work and don't really have time! Ed: I see he is there now. |

How egg citing that PH has it's first egg Here is something that will never happen to the Channel Island Eagles..... Bald eagle pair to be moved from nest at Martin State Airport ![]() (Photo by Craig Koppie for the United States Fish and Wildlife Service / February 23, 2009) By Frank D. Roylance | frank.roylance@baltsun.com 8:16 PM EST, February 23, 2009 A federal biologist plans to climb 80 feet into an ancient oak tree near Glenn L. Martin State Airport Tuesday morning to knock down a nest built by a breeding pair of bald eagles. The eviction is part of an effort to drive the nesting birds away from the airport, where they have been judged a hazard to aircraft operations. "Apparently it's an attractive tree for eagles," said Jonathan Dean, a spokesman for the Maryland Aviation Administration. It's a tall, sturdy perch, close to the food resources of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. Nevertheless, he said, "birds and aircraft don't mix." Biologists say there is a better-than-even chance the birds are already incubating eggs, but bad weather prevented officials from acting sooner. Any eggs in the nest will be lost. But officials expect the eagles will find another nesting site in time to reproduce again this spring. That often occurs when an eagle nest is hijacked by great horned owl. Click pic for entire story

Did you hear about this one Carole? Ft. Myers, FL Developer almost forces eagles out of home WBBH-TV updated 6:12 a.m. PT, Wed., Feb. 25, 2009 HENDRY COUNTY: Bald eagles are a symbol of our nation's freedom and a number of them came close to losing their nest because of illegal land clearing. Three bald eagles, along with an unknown number of little eaglets, call a nest in Hendry County home. But recently, they've had company from an unwanted guest. A developer has illegally cleared land within 50 feet of the active eagle's nest - breaking both state and federal laws. Click link for the entire story |
