OMG Karen! That ray is HUGE!!! If I read the article right they have released her? I sure hope she isn't being hacked into steaks!

Yes, Kathie, a freshwater biologist caught it and he only measured and tagged it then released it. But that tail does not look 10 ft to me. Not sure where they measure from but 10 ft. is a lot longer than what I see as tail.

Hi everyone I have the funniest thing to tell you guys.....

Because of the eye surgery the county has sent out a care giver for awhile (a little late but still) I took her on the whale watching trip. For those of you that live around here we all know about the streets being named similar ie...Telephone and Telegraph or Ventura and Victoria. When I went to pick her up she told me to take Telegraph to her house.... :bld: She lives off of Telephone. I thought I was blonde. Then her husband comes to pick her up from the trip and calls her he was lost he was on Ventura Rd and we were on Victoria!!!

So as it goes I of course told her about the eagles. She said there are Eagles on the islands???? then wait for it she says there are TREES on the islands. :bld:
She was born here go figure!! She has lived in Scotland and Hawaii (where there are NO EAGLES. So I showed her this site and she is all concerned about the well being of the babies and she said Oh my gosh you must get ADDICTED worried about the eagles. D U H!!

Cute huh.

Wow Linda, what a once in a lifetime sight!  :)^  :><:  How fortunate for him to be there at the perfect time.  The boat in Dana Point, eeekk.  Many years ago sailing between Anacapa and Santa Cruz, a basking whale (basically called a Whale Shark) they're as big as a whale, it dove under us, and was scratching it's back on our keel!  We hauled the boat out to see if there was any damage, just black skid marks from his skin. rofl  rofl  rofl

Once I walked out on the beach and saw a couple of whales offshore, breaching and then poof, they were gone.  I bet he'll never forget that incredible sight.

Hope you don't mind me sticking my nose in here with my 2-cent's worth. A baskin shark and a whale shark are similar, but two different types of sharks. They are both huge and gentle. They both feed on plankton.

Trivia: The whale shark is the largest fish in the ocean.

That was it Jann, it came with it's big mouth open, I thought it was gonna swallow us like Jonah! rofl Thanks for the clarification! It was definitely a baskin shark. Huge and creepy, but very gentle, except when it used our keel as a back scratcher! rofl rofl

That whale shark is beautiful, Jann! I don't recall ever seeing a picture of one before. And I'm jazzed that I can actually see it - must not be in PB! :P

Speaking of pictures - Penny, I don't tell you often enough how much I love the fabulous eagle pictures you post every day. I can only dream of ever getting one shot like these and these guys do it every day. What a way to make a living!

rofl rofl you could see way down it's throat as it was coming at the boat. I was lying on the rail, and looked at eye level at that monster. He was really cool though! Obviously, I went down below and hid! rofl

I am taking in my macaw for my 5 year old's show and tell today for her class. I am going to teach them about birds and tell them about the eagles too. They should like that!

That one got me too Robin... I want to be Amanda Pippin... not sure I would be getting many pictures though <3 what an adorable fluff ball....

I will have to share Scout's ritual after being outside for an hour or two... I open the door and he comes in and faces me and puts his paws on my knees and does a cat stretch... every single time!!! sometimes the claws come out a little and I have learned to hold his paws while he is doing it in case he digs in... I just love him to pieces <3
