My grandfather's family (my dad's side) was German...Wheelock...but my grandfather didn't speak German. My ancestors came over on the Mayflower. My grandmother (dad's side) was French Canadian. She only spoke French until after she met my grandfather. She did not teach her kids French due to my grandfather's sisters. They said when my grandparents had kids they would all speak French and they would not be able to understand them so my grandma vowed not to teach them. My dad always wished he had talked her into teaching him. My grandma was a Bourgeous (Boor-shwah). The man who founded Dartmouth College in Vt...Eleazar Wheelock..was my ancestor. Also, have Native American from the Abenaki tribe. My great-great-great grandmother on my dad's side was Abenaki. My dad's sister did their whole family tree all the way back to about the 1500's. There is also German on my mom's side but I don't know a lot about my mom's side of the family. |

Kathie, I have never considered myself to be German...I'm a Canajan thru and thru..eh! It is fantastic that so many of you know the details of your family history. I tried for many years before my father's mother passed away to get some details out of her but... nada. I truly think there must have been some serious skeleton in the family closet. One distant relative was a Vice Presdent of the United States for something like 3 months though |
