Small surprise there was an intruder at the Maine nest yesterday...The Big Question is who are the defending eagles? Nest watchers are not sure if this is the same Dad or even it is the same Mom ![]() ![]() Click on pic for video by DEF (4:09) Most of the action is just before and after the 2:00 minute mark. |

They seem very much on guard in the nest. Wow. Do they know what kind of 'intruder' it was? Another eagle, or another type of bird? Gosh, I pray we don't have bad things happen with our PH nest this year.

Betty Barn Owl is sheltering her chicks under her wings and feeding the owlets at the same time. What a great Mom Here she works on the tail of that tough woodrat......now pulling it apart ![]() ![]() The chicks blend in with her feathers on both sides. I need Photoshop  and I need a video capturing program too |

The intruder was another eagle...there are so few large nesting trees available after those devastating storms in 2007 when the Maine pair lost their eaglets. At one time another pair desperately tried to take over this nest so the female could lay her egg which she finally did as a stream of egg yolk and albumen as she was being attacked ![]() There is video of that incident too...so sad because she did not have her own nest to use. Last year in March, the BRI biologist Wing Goodale posted... 'A couple of behaviors indicate that there may be a change. They are now three weeks later than the previously two years, and the birds’ pattern of nest attendance is different. The birds appear to be "figuring" out their way through the nesting process, whereas in the prior two years they were extremely efficient. Finally, after a nest failure (last year), nest switches are common....cont ..' |

Hello everyone! Yet another late visit for me. I went to visit my granparents. I haven't seen them in a while and I wanted to see how they were doing. So, how is everyone? Oh, and did anyone ever find out if Wray delivered a second egg? I've just got on so I haven't had time to read through all the posts. |

Penny... The Maine eagle incident was from yesterday afternoon. All was quiet on the homefront today. Our saying is... Expect the unexpected. eaglehandler... What a great new addition to the family!!! He is beautiful. Is it a juvie bald eagle or a golden? I wonder where our dear sweet Buddy will end up and I pray that he gets a great home. Jillers... OMG! That Florida retirement piece was a riot! I could see my parents through and through. Of course I forwarded it on to them. Sharon... Sending get well wishes your daughter's way. As we talked about, I know exactly what she's going through and it is not fun. I'm glad that she is able to rehab at home with you... and Lexi of course.
